On 21 October 1805, the Royal Navy under Vice Admiral Lord Nelson defeated the combined French and Spanish fleets off Cape Trafalgar. Before the battle, Nelson sent his famous signal from HMS Victory: "England expects that every man will do his duty." He was fatally wounded during the action but lived long enough to learn of the victory.

Trafalgar Day is one of the most important dates in the Sea Cadet calendar, and units across the country take time today to remember Nelson and all those who served.

Our cadets will be marking the day at a parade this coming Sunday in Leeds.

We’re back at the unit for our winter training which can only mean 1 thing (at least for PO (SCC) Rayner anyway!)

IT’S DRILL COMPETITION TRAINING!

Tonight we began training for the North District Sea Cadets drill competition. We have an all new routine and plenty of new faces that have joined the team (and the unit) and we can’t wait to see what they achieve this year!

That's a wrap on National Cadets Week!

All week we've been sharing what makes Harrogate and District Sea Cadets such a special place to learn, grow and get out on the water. To finish, we'll hand over to our Commanding Officer, Lt (SCC) Wilding, for a final word.

"As Commanding Officer, and a former cadet myself, I know firsthand how transformative this journey is. The skills, confidence, and resilience I built as a cadet and adult volunteer have shaped the person I am today. Seeing our cadets take those same empowering steps is immensely rewarding, and I strongly encourage all our cadets to jump in and grab every single opportunity that comes their way!
If you're thinking about joining the cadet movement, there's no better time to start your adventure with Harrogate and District Sea Cadets.
Of course, none of this would be possible without our unbelievable team of adult volunteers. Thank you all for your extraordinary dedication and energy in delivering an unforgettable experience for our cadets!"

Interested in joining as a cadet or volunteer? Get in touch or come along to a parade night at TS Cleopatra.

Today is World Mental Health Day, and it also falls during National Cadets Week, so we wanted to take a moment to talk about something that matters to all of us at Harrogate and District Sea Cadets.

Cadets is about far more than boats and uniforms. For young people, it's a place to build confidence, make friends, try new challenges and feel part of a team. Getting out on the water, learning new skills and achieving something you didn't think you could do all make a real difference to how you feel about yourself.

It's not just the cadets who benefit either. Our adult volunteers find the same sense of purpose, friendship and belonging. Giving your time to help young people grow is one of the most rewarding things you can do, and it's good for your own wellbeing too.

We also want everyone to know that we have a trained Mental Health First Aider at TS Cleopatra. If any cadet, parent or volunteer ever needs someone to talk to, please reach out. Nobody has to struggle on their own.

Look after yourselves and each other, today and every day.

If you'd like to find out more about joining as a cadet or volunteer, get in touch or pop along to one of our parade nights.
