Amisfield Walled Garden, East Lothian

Amisfield Walled Garden, East Lothian 8 acre community walled garden under restoration by volunteers part-financed by the National Lottery Community Fund and by East Lothian Council.

Dogs are welcome but only on leads. Check website for events. Amisfield Park once formed the policies of Amisfield House, a palladian mansion designed by Isaac Ware for Francis Charteris, 7th Earl of Wemyss dating from the 1750s. The house was demolished in 1928, but the parkland, ruined stables, gate piers and ruinous lodges, gothic folly, restored rococo summer house and a large walled garden remain.

Tomorrow, Thursday 4 June from 11am till 12.30pm will be the final chance to take advantage of our current series of Mindfulness Sessions with Joyce Lukkes Mindfulness.

The forecast has been worse than the actual weather all week so there's a good chance of being out in our beautiful garden, but the session will be held under cover if the rain is relentless. Either way, Joyce will gently guide you to slow down, notice the small things and allow yourself the chance to reset away from the busyness of everday life.

The session is free but please book by following the link https://forms.gle/Ngyf4fSuhyhsyttE6

We hope to see you there.

We welcome well-behaved dogs on short leads at the garden, but remind dog owners to take away their dog's waste. We are repeatedly finding dog poo left in and around the garden: we have to clear it up and with no waste disposal on site our staff and volunteers have to take the poo away for disposal. Please respect our beautiful space and the community that looks after it.

We are proud to promote World Therapeutic Horticulture Day on Monday 18th May 2026.

“Therapeutic horticulture is so much more than gardening. It’s connection, purpose, community, and care — a practice that supports mental, physical, emotional, and social wellbeing.”

And here at Amisfield we strive to be more than just a garden: we offer connection, purpose, community and care to our volunteers, our visitors and to the wider local community.
