Wing and a Prayer Hen Rescue (also known as Wing and a Prayer or Wing and a Prayer Rescue) is a Scottish charity (SCIO No. SC045052) which rescues and rehomes ex-commercial laying hens. We hold rescue events approximately every 8 weeks all over Scotland from Inverness to Dumfries and many places in between. We are entirely funded by donations and run by volunteers. We do not have a central rehomin

g point to keep hens, so we rely on volunteers allowing us to use their premises for a few hours for rehoming days and to care for unwanted or sick hens at their own homes.

This is Janine, another recent rescue with an eye issue. She has seen our fabulous avian vet Richard and has some eyedrops. He thinks this may be an injury, not a tumour like our other girl.
She can’t see much we don’t think, and that is unlikely to change, but she doesn’t seem to be in pain and is happily free-ranging with her new flock ❤️

Janine needs your help! 🙏🏼

This lovely lady recently came into our care and is completely blind in one eye. After a visit to our vet to give her the once over we now suspect there’s a tumour in there. Sadly the swelling is now causing concern that she may be experiencing pain/discomfort, and our vets have advised that the best course of action for her is surgery to remove the eye completely.

Despite being blind in one eye, and partially sighted in the other, Janine is the sweetest big girl and we’re looking for support to fund her surgery and aftercare.

If you’re able to donate, no matter how small the amount, it would be massively appreciated and help make such a difference to lovely Janine’s quality of life.

WOW! What a month so far!

Here is a selection of pictures shared by our volunteers all around the country: they have driven miles, given up their Easter holidays and generally stepped up and been amazing to help these birds ❤️
I say birds because we’ve rescued 800 hens, 15 cockerels, 4 ducks and even been involved in the rescue of an Emu and a Llama (I know, not a bird)this month!

Animal rescue can be crazy and unpredictable at times and we find it so hard to say no when we are asked for help. Fortunately we are 100% volunteer-powered by truly brilliant humans with huge hearts.

We are so grateful to you all ❤️

What a weekend!
589 hens and 13 cockerels welcomed into our care!

Some have already headed off to their happy retirement homes, and others are still with us while they wait for theirs 🏡

We still have lots of hens available for rehoming over the next week or so.
