☀️ Braving the heat for an unforgettable Heritage Storywalk in Greenwich! ☀️
What a joyful and inspiring day it was to be joined by the Deaf community DMCS - Deaf Multilingual Community Support CIC

A massive thank you to our incredible women for so beautifully weaving your personal journeys and diverse cultures into the local history of Greenwich, showing us all how our roots connect us.

It was a true privilege to see everyone listening, learning, and connecting. Huge thanks to our amazing BSL interpreters, Gemma and Mehdi, who ensured every voice was brought to life, and thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund for supporting this project.

We’re proud to introduce the United For Dignity Team! 💜 ✨ A group of migrant women using lived experiences to campaign for change and raise awareness of the impact of No Recourse to Public Funds (NRPF) policies on our daily lives.

💪Together, we are building collective power, advocating for dignity and inclusion, and pushing for change.💫
From our very first in-person meeting, where we collectively chose our team name: United For Dignity 💜🌟

Last Wednesday we had a very informative and helpful session with Greenwich Time to Talk on preparing for menopause. 🌸

We learned so much about the symptoms to expect, ways to manage them, and the importance of supporting one another through this journey. Hearing personal stories and experiences shared within the group also helped others know what to expect and reassured them that they are not alone.👭🫂

A huge thank you to Greenwich Time to Talk for delivering such a supportive session and to Greenwich Mental Health Hub South East London Mind for supporting this project.✨ 💜🙏

Laura Marziale founded Creating Ground CIC in May 2016 with the vision of bringing migrant women together across cultures and differences to create change in their lives and communities in South East London through participatory arts and educational projects.

At our 10th anniversary event, Laura offered an inspirational speech. Here is a memorable excerpt:

"It all started with a seed in my mind many years ago. 🌱At the time, I did not know exactly what Creating Ground would become. But I knew I wanted us migrant women to feel seen, valued, and powerful.✨

I wanted a place where we women - especially those deeply affected by the hostile environment - could express themselves freely, beyond labels and stereotypes, and be recognised not as passive recipients of support, but as active agents of change.

Today, at a time when division, fear, and isolation can feel very present in society, spaces of connection, creativity, and solidarity matter more than ever.

Creating Ground is rooted in co-production, collaboration, participation, and shared leadership. What we are achieving together has been — and continues to be — truly amazing. We are building solidarity, nurturing one another, and helping women grow in confidence, wellbeing, and leadership 💥💥"

11:00am - Meet at the Cutty Sark SE10 9HT and walk along the river

1:00pm - Finish at the Maritime Museum "Ship in a Bottle"

On Monday we celebrated 10 years of unbounded creativity, continuous solidarity, deep connection, and powerful community.💫🎉

🌲🌳🌲Greenwich West's hall was transformed into an inviting forest filled with our members' beautiful artwork, inspiring speeches, moving performances and thoughtful presentations. 💃🏽🎭🎤🎶🎨

Our event became a space for reflection about our first steps and our incredible achievements, and for reimagining our future 🌟🌟

Our theme this year, Rooted and Rising, helped us appreciate how deeply we have grown together, and how we can develop further.🌱🌺🌿🌺🌱

From theatre and dance to storytelling, art making, mindful movement, walks, campaigning, archiving, healing, and leadership, Creating Ground has always been shaped by the courage, creativity, and strength of migrant women.

Thank you to everyone who celebrated with us yesterday — members, partners, artists, facilitators, funders, supporters, friends, and family.🎉🎊🎉

✨✨What an incredibly powerful and dynamic constellation of people!✨✨ As one of our directors mentioned, 'our cooperation, resilience and determination made this project both successful and memorable'.

These are some first photos and videos from the day, and we're still gathering more beautiful instances, but for now we just wanted to say THANK you 🙏🏽🙏🏻🙏🏿 to every woman who has been part of this journey over the last ten years.
