Sunbeams Community Hub

Sunbeams Community Hub Sunbeams Community Hub is a charity registered as Sunbeams Play, offering support, fun, training and social opportunities for the Autistic community

Sunbeams is a charity registered as Sunbeams Play with an Outstanding Ofsted rating which provides a fun, safe and caring environment for children and young people and adults with an Autistic Spectrum Disorder to thrive. We understand how difficult it can be to engage in mainstream activities due to a variety of social needs and anxieties. Here at Sunbeams they can relax play and socialise in an

environment that is suitable for them, alongside or with others who have the same/similar needs. From experience and meeting the children, young people and adults we've found they love attending because everyone is here for the same reason, they do not encounter ‘competition’ or the need to behave in a certain way, they can simply be themselves! All of our staff are fully trained and have relevant experience of working with children, young people and adults. Training about Autism and behaviour management are kept up to date at all times, as well as first aid and other relevant courses. Sunbeams works on a 1:3 ratio, this means for every 3 children/young people there will be 1 member of staff (accept the youth group, carers and adult support groups). We can have up to 15 children/young people in any one session, your child or young person will be invited to attend a two week introduction during the session appropriate to their age. This enables us to get to know them thoroughly before they start and also for them to get used to staff, the environment and the other children /young people. You will be asked to stay close to the premises for the first sessions until your child is comfortable with us. We understand it's not always just about those with ASD and sometimes parents and carers feel lost, frightened, confused, or alone so we've added a free fortnightly Parent Support group and Late Diagnosis Group. The groups provide the opportunity to meet other people diagnosed or facing diagnosis, parents and carers, share ideas, tips and experiences, ask advice or simply relax in each others company knowing that everyone understands. For those of you that need to talk privately we offer appointments to talk to one of our staff members who can advise on diagnosis, education, benefits, form filling and behaviour issues. If we can't help we will help you find someone who can. Although Sunbeams Play is registered with Ofsted to care for children and young people aged 5 (Yr 1) to 19yrs, our youth group supports up to 25 yrs old in line with EHCPs. Please be aware

Following some comments and questions regarding a recent donation to Sunbeams, we would like to clarify our position.

Sunbeams Community Hub is, and will remain, politically independent. We do not support, endorse or campaign for any political party, politician or political organisation.

Sunbeams was recently chosen as the recipient of a donation. We understand that the donor has made similar donations to a number of different charities and good causes.

We are incredibly fortunate to receive support from many different people, businesses, organisations and members of our community. Those who choose to support Sunbeams will inevitably hold a wide range of personal, professional and political views.

Accepting a donation does not mean that Sunbeams endorses the donor's personal views, beliefs or political policies. Nor does a donation influence the way our charity is run, the decisions we make or the values we uphold.

The donation will simply do what every donation to Sunbeams does — help us provide support and opportunities for the autistic children, young people, adults and families who access our services.

Our values have not changed.

We remain committed to inclusion, equality, dignity, respect and creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who uses Sunbeams.

We respect that people hold different political opinions. However, our social media pages are not intended to be a forum for political debate, and we will not be entering into discussions regarding individual political views or policies.

Our focus remains where it has always been — supporting our community.

❤️ A VERY BIG THANK YOU FROM SUNBEAMS ❤️

As CEO of Sunbeams Community Hub, I wanted to personally say a huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Celebration of Autism Festival such a lovely day.

There are so many people who deserve our thanks.

Firstly we need to recognise that without people being prepared to open their gates, give their time and simply say “yes, we’ll help”, events like this couldn't happen. Judith and Paul — from all of us at Sunbeams, thank you for once again welcoming us to Highfield Farm and making the day possible

Then theres our amazing Sunbeams staff and volunteers. Many gave up their own time to help run the event, man stalls, welcome visitors, set up, pack away and do the hundreds of little jobs that go into making an event like this happen. I am incredibly proud of the team we have at Sunbeams.

A huge thank you also goes to our Trustees, who didn't just support the event from behind the scenes — they were right there beside us on the day, serving, helping and taking the time to chat with visitors. That support means a great deal to me personally and to Sunbeams.

Thank you to Babs, The First Aid Lady, who very kindly donated her time to keep everyone safe throughout the event.

A special thank you to the YFD Mobile Entertainment Escape Room team, who not only brought their fantastic mobile escape room but stayed afterwards and rolled up their sleeves to help us pack everything away. That unexpected kindness at the end of a very long day was certainly appreciated. The Autism Reality Experience for for helping some of us gain more awareness of the sensory difficulties faced by those with autism and Isys Mascots for adding that extra bit of fun.

Thank you to the councillors who came along to support us, or took the time to send their good wishes for the day. Knowing that people within our wider community are behind what we are trying to achieve means so much.

To every stallholder, attraction, entertainer and organisation who joined us — thank you for being part of our day and helping us create such a varied event for our visitors.

And, of course, everyone who provided our live entertainment throughout the day.

Lucy Short who did a fantastic job hosting the festival as well as taking to the stage herself.

All of our wonderful bands and musicians who gave their time and talent to entertain us.

And a very special mention to Raoul & Tim from the Floating Greyhounds, who quite literally sang us out at the end of the festival!

Most importantly, thank you to every single person who came through the gates. Whether you stayed for an hour or spent much of the day with us, we hope you enjoyed being part of our Celebration of Autism.

The purpose of the day was exactly what its name said — to celebrate autism, diversity, inclusion and our wonderful community. Seeing children, young people, adults and families enjoying themselves together made all the hard work worthwhile.

There will always be things we learn from organising a new event, but today I am simply incredibly grateful to everyone who stood beside Sunbeams and helped make the day happen.

From me personally, and from everyone at Sunbeams Community Hub...

THANK YOU. 🌈❤️
