Grasmere WI usually meets at 2pm, on the second Thursday of the month, in Grasmere Village Hall. We are a very active, lively , friendly group.

Come along to a meeting to try us out. A full year's membership is a bargain at £52 Grasmere WI - Inspiring Women since 1919. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month, 2pm, Grasmere Village Hall. Occasionally this may change so please check here. Every 4th Thursday we meet for a ramble , followed by tea and cakes. Most other Thursdays we arrange a day out somewhere local. Tea and cakes in a cafe are probably involved. We are a very active lively WI, and we are always very keen to welcome new members. Come along as our guest to try us out. A full year's WI membership is only £44. An absolute bargain! We have a thriving WhatsApp members group, and are also active on Twitter and Instagram.

We did it - GWI has done the Cumbria Way, all 79 miles of it from Carlisle to Ulverston 🥾🥳🥳🥳

Such an amazing challenge and great team effort with over 50 GWI members taking part and encouraging each other every step of the way 💪😍

Here we are on our last section - Kendall Ground (near Coniston) to Ulverston and then onto our wonderful charity St Mary's Hospice 💜 where we had a fabulous celebratory afternoon tea 🫖 🍰 🥂🥂🥂 🎉🎉🎉

Thanks to Ali Ring for the idea of GWI doing the Cumbria Way and to Nicky Oliver and Sally Smith
for making it all happen - the organising and leading of walks has been truly phenomenal 🙏🤩

And the biggest thanks of all to everyone at GWI who joined in and supported this amazing challenge 🙏😍

Such a fantastic GWI trip to RHS Garden Bridgewater
🚌 🌺🌼🌳🛍️ 🫖🍰😍

We saw all seasons in one day 🌧️💨 ❄️ 🍂 🌞 but luckily the sun came out for our afternoon tour of the gardens 😍

Amazing gardens; brilliant tour by our guide Gail; fabulous cafe and shopping; wonderful company and lots of laughs as always ❤️🤣

Wonderful to see the new Yangzhou Scholars’ Garden 🇨🇳 - just amazing 🤩

Big thanks to Hayley Davidson from GWI for all the organising and to all at RHS Bridgewater and GWI for the best day out 🙏🥳

And huge thanks to Stacey and team at the fantastic Heron Travel for getting us there and back in such style 🚌 😍

Such a wonderful afternoon at our October GWI Meeting with Angie Walsh talking about her distinguished career in the Royal Navy - “Blue Eye Shadow to the Front Line, My Career in the Royal Navy” 💪👩‍✈️🤩

A really fascinating and inspiring talk all about Angie’s fantastic naval career and working with The Princess Royal 😍

By the end of the talk we were all ready to sign up for the Royal Navy 😱🤣

We also said hello 👋 to our latest 4 Trophies awarded to us at this year’s Westmorland County Show & Agricultural Society 🏆🏆🏆🏆🥳

There was fabulous 🫖 & amazing 🍰🍰🍰 ; great company and lots of laughs as always 🤣❤️

Such an interesting, action-packed Meeting as always 🤩

A brilliant afternoon at Selside Memorial Hall at our Cumbria Westmorland Federation lecture with David Johnson Nicky Oliver and Floki 🐶 and their amazing 214 Winter Wainwright presentation interviewed by our very own Sally Smith 🤩

Such a fantastic achievement and story of how David, Nicky and Floki 🐶 completed a Winter Wainwright Round - climbing all 214 Lake District fells in a single winter and in the snowiest winter for over 20 years 🏔️ 🥾 ⛏️ ❄️

And David and Nicky met through GWI - Nicky is our GWI Programme Manager and David is the husband of our President Louise Sykes 😍

Big thanks to Cat Colby from GWI for all her support, collecting lots of donations for Lake District Mountain Rescue and Search Dogs and selling out a boxful of The Great Outdoors magazine TGO Magazine featuring the published article and photographs of this challenge and all in the purse 👛 Cat won in the raffle - you could not make it up ❤️🤣

And huge thanks to all at the Federation for such a wonderful afternoon and making everyone so welcome, we loved it 😍 Thanks Karen Hanks and team 🙏😊

Big thanks for all the kind donations to Lake District Mountain Rescue and Search Dogs - the fundraising total for this challenge now stands at £4,195 🤩

Our GWI Book / Culture Group had such a brilliant evening with poet laureate Simon Armitage at The Daffodil Hotel & Spa Grasmere in September 😍

Very uplifting, inspiring and funny - as always ❤️🤣

Such a privilege to see Simon in Grasmere every year, thank you Simon and to all at Wordsworth Grasmere 🙏😊

Such a wonderful few weeks with the brilliant Alan Bennett and some of his favourites poets, they are fantastic company 😍

We’ve been out walking with them 🎧 👟, driving 🚘 📻 with them and for ☕️ & 🍰 with them and they all came along to our GWI September Book Group meeting at Allan Bank National Trust Lake District
🏡❤️🤣

Such a wonderful anthology of poetry from Thomas Hardy, A. E. Housman, John Betjeman, W. H. Auden, Louis MacNeice and Philip Larkin and all put together so well by in his usual entertaining and informative way 🤩

Would highly recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Such a fantastic GWI afternoon - a brilliant speaker, amazing cakes, fantastic company and lots of our wonderful Westmorland County Show & Agricultural Society entries on display 🏆🎉🎉🎉

Big thanks to our Federation Chair, Karen Hanks for a really wonderful talk on her voluntary work in Police Custody visits and her time in the Barrow Cells! Such an interesting, funny and very inspiring talk 🙏😍 💪 ❤️

Huge well done to Team GWI on another very successful Westmorland County Show, it was our highest scoring Show ever and we won 4 🏆🏆🏆🏆🥳🥳🥳🥳

Back out on the GWI Cumbria Way Challenge - that’s stage 11 ticked off ✅ 🥳

Such a brilliant GWI day out - a really great walk, lots of fun and we ended at the fantastic The Bluebird Café by the lake 🍰😍

Huge thanks to Nicky Oliver and Floki 🐶 for leading the way and to Sally Smith , Rocky and Flash 🐶🐶 for making sure no one got left behind 🙏🤩

And thanks to the fabulous Heron Travel 🚌 for getting us there and back 🙏😊

So that’s 73 miles done 😱, just 6.2 miles left to do on our big finale walk in October from Kendall Ground to Ulverston and on to our charity St Mary's Hospice 💜 for a celebratory 🎉 afternoon tea 🫖 🍰
