Today we’re excited to be back at Birkenside Funday!
The Scouts and Explorers will be selling burgers, hotdogs, teas, coffees and tuck shop all day.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there and supporting our local community.

Day 7 & Day 8 - Thursday 6th & Friday 7th August | Scout Camp 2026
Day 7 began with our usual camp morning routine - breakfast, daily duties, flag break and patrol tent inspection. Once the site was looking decent, our Scouts and Explorers headed out in their Patrols for a hike, while most of the Leaders stayed back to begin packing up equipment.
After everyone returned, we grabbed lunch and got stuck into a big team effort of packing, sorting gear and tidying the campsite. Later in the afternoon, some of us fired up the branding iron and burned our logo into wooden plaques.
In the evening, we enjoyed a roast chicken dinner followed by the legendary bean feast. The night rounded off with some relaxed free time — a good finish to our last full day.

Day 8 marked our final morning. After breakfast, we lowered the flag and completed the last of the packing, cleared the site, and made sure everything was away. With the gear loaded in the vans and the campsite spotless, we said cheerio to Ford and Etal and headed back up the road and that was a wrap on Scout Camp 2026.
A week full of adventure, teamwork, laughs, challenges, and memories we’ll carry for a lifetime.

Day 6 – Wednesday 5th August | Scout Camp 2026
We kicked off the day with a typical camp morning: breakfast, daily duties, flag break, and a full patrol tent inspection to keep everyone on their toes. Once the campsite was all tidy, we headed straight down to the river for a session of kayaking. Everyone got stuck in and made the most of the sunshine.
After paddling for most of the morning, we returned to camp for a hot soup lunch. Then it was back out again, this time to Berwick upon Tweed for a trip to the swimming pool - which doubled as a much needed proper wash. Back at camp in the evening, dinner was spaghetti and meatballs, followed by a trio of desserts - apple crumble, banoffee pie, and chocolate cake, complete with ice cream and custard. Safe to say nobody went hungry.
The night wrapped up with some relaxed free time, and then a midnight walk.

Day 5 – Tuesday 4th August | Scout Camp 2026
A slower, well‑earned recovery day at camp! We kicked things off with a full breakfast before getting stuck into our camp duties, morning flag break and patrol tent inspection.
With the rain pouring down, we moved indoors for some paracord crafting — wristbands, woggles, keychains and plenty more. After lunch we had a few games of volleyball and free time on the campsite. We then had a power cut as we began a very competitive beetle drive and a bunch of other fun games.
Later on we took a wee trip to Seahouses for a chippy tea (absolutely spot on). Later on in the evening the power had returned, so we gathered in the hut for a 100‑question quiz — which, unsurprisingly, got very competitive.
A relaxed, fun day after a busy few days — just what everyone needed.

Day 4 – Monday 3rd August | Scout Camp 2026
Up sharp this morning and straight into a cracking continental breakfast from the cookhouse before we hit the road early for Beamish – The Living Museum of the North.
The Scouts spent most of the day exploring the town, listening to talks by the costumed staff, learning the history, and of course sampling the essentials - old‑fashioned sweets, fresh bakery cakes, and chips from the coal‑fired fryers.
The forecast promised rain all day… but as we arrived, the skies cleared and we ended up with a dry, roasting 20+° day. Couldn’t have asked for better weather for experiencing Beamish.
Back at camp, dinner was burgers, followed by patrol tent inspections and another round of fiercely competitive volleyball comps.
A full day of history, sunshine, food, and good fun!

Day 3 – Sunday 2nd August | Scout Camp 2026
Patrol tent inspections kicked off our Sunday morning before we headed straight onto the water for a full session of kayaking. The Scouts absolutely smashed it — great teamwork, great paddling, and plenty of laughs along the way.
Lunch was pizza, which was gone in seconds.
Afternoon was filled with a round of volleyball competitions, followed by a trip into Berwick‑upon‑Tweed for some well earned free time. Ice creams may have been involved…
Back at camp, the evening turned into a proper outdoor cooking masterclass. The Scouts prepped pigeon, fried the breasts, and served them up alongside chicken fajitas and nachos — an absolute feast to finish the day.
Another packed day, full of adventure, skills, and sunshine. On to Day 4!

Saturday 01 Aug — Day 2 at Scout Camp 2026
We started the day with a full breakfast then onto pioneering challenges, cooking competitions, volleyball tournaments, and soup & toasties for lunch — the Scouts also learned how to prep their tent and patrol’s area for inspection.

Our Scout Troop and our Gorebridge Explorer Scouts set off for Ford & Etal today.
Tents are up, volleyball court’s sorted, and chicken curry’s on for dinner.
Solid start to what should be a great week.
