We are incredibly proud to share the results from this weekend’s Midlothian District Camping Competition — the first one held since 2014, and what a return it was. We are unsure of the last time Gorebridge took part in a Midlothian District Camping Competition, which makes this year’s achievements even more special.

🏆 Our Scout Patrol, The Kelpies, WON the competition!
🥈 Our second Scout Patrol, The Kilted Destroyers, came an amazing joint-second place!

And representing our Gorebridge Explorer Scout Unit:
🥈 The Tartan Tosspots placed second among all Explorer teams, delivering a brilliant performance throughout the weekend.

This was out of 19 patrols and around 100 young people competing, making these results even more impressive. Every young person who took part showed skill, teamwork, resilience, and true Scouting spirit.
A massive well done to all involved — what an achievement for the first District Camping Competition in over a decade. We couldn’t be prouder. ⚜️⛺️🥾

Over the last few months our Scouts & Explorer Scouts have been getting hands on with some brilliant skills!

We’ve been doing first aid, practising CPR and learning how to use defibrillators (AEDs) on our resuscitation dummies.
We’ve also been building our pioneering skills, creating camp gadgets using a range of knots and lashings.
And with District Challenge Camp just around the corner, our Scouts and Explorers have been busy pitching tents, organising patrol chests, and sharpening their outdoor skills.

Massive thanks to Masonic Lodge Gorebridge Dundas No. 1039 for their generous donation of £500 towards our Scout Camp this summer!
PM John presented the cheque to Scout Leader - Mac and Assistant Scout Leader - Ewan, and we were delighted to gift them a plaque in return for their continued contributions to the Troop.

Huge well done to our Scouts and Explorers for smashing last Saturday’s Sponsored Walk. Everyone kept a steady pace, covered a decent distance, and the weather couldn’t have been better. ⚜️🥾

Well Done Callie!

Congratulations to Callie McLean for being presented with a Chief Scout’s Commendation for Good Service. Callie is a Scout and Explorer Team Member at 1st Midlothian Scout Group
The award is Awarded in respect of not less than 5 years good service, which stands out. It should be regarded as the Chief Scout's recognition of the very real contribution made to the Scouts.

🌦️ Four seasons in one weekend? Challenge accepted.

Over Easter, our Scouts and Explorer Scouts took on Borthwick during Storm Dave — high winds, snow, hail and rain tried their best, but our Scouts and Explorers didn’t miss a beat.
From pitching and sleeping in patrol tents to knife, axe and saw skills, everyone got stuck in.
We prepared and cooked rabbit and pigeon over the fire in the Dutch oven (the game stew was a winner), built shelters, and mastered backwoods cooking with apple crumble to finish it off.
Our Explorers stayed an extra day to learn the behind‑the‑scenes setup, pack‑down, and how to use more advanced kit. We even tested out new gear like our Joolca hottap showers and gas grills — total game‑changers for camp life.
A wild, brilliant, unforgettable weekend at Borthwick. 🌲🔥💪
