It's the news we've all been waiting for... Beaver kits have been born at Heal Somerset for the second year in a row! 💚🦫

Having spotted signs earlier in the year that Mama Beaver was preparing for motherhood, we've been keeping a close eye on our trailcams... and we are utterly delighted to confirm that we've now spotted not one but TWO new beaver kits! What joyful news 💚

Last year's kits are still living in the lodge and will likely help out with kit-sitting duties as well as dam maintenance and expansion - it's all hands on deck for this busy family.

Moth of the day! 🦋

We wanted to share some of our less featured wildlife here at Heal Somerset. Yes, we have beavers. Yes, we have otters... and pine marten, skylark, foxes, kingfishers, water rail, stoat.... etc etc (the list goes on) - but our diversity of moths is astonishing!

Pictured is the adorable Puss Moth. It's not a rare moth but we love its cute furry face and legs, and its accidental camouflage here made it a great spot by volunteer and photographer extraordinaire Jen.

We couldn't make it up... this gorgeous patch of 'Heal purple' ajuga has spread on the Heal front lawn in the almost-perfect shape of a heart!

Seen at its best from above, this first image was captured by drone by Tom Francome. If you stand a bit closer you'll hear the steady buzzzzz of bees attracted to its flowers - what better sound on a sunny day?

These photos were taken two weeks apart - can you spot the difference? 🌳

We are in awe of how the beavers are continuing to evolve the wetlands. There are new changes to spot each week - more of the beavers' hard work to marvel at, different plant species growing in the wet earth and wetland-loving birds enjoying the pool and marshy ground.

Happy pigs 🥰🐖💚

It is glorious to see our ginger boys thriving in the wild, wallowing happily in the developing wetlands and generally living their best life. If you've seen them in person recently you may have noticed that they are enormous - and still growing! They should reach their full size when they're around three years old.

And if you haven't visited the pigs yet - what are you waiting for! Come on down and enjoy the spring scenes. We're open 24/7 and have five miles (eight km) of mown paths for you to explore.
