The Gaiety will be back at the Village Hall on Friday, 30th January at 7.30pm with Gangsters & Gatsby, a murder mystery evening by Can You Catch The Killer? There's still time to get your tickets for Santa's Cousin Bob at the Village Hall on Wednesday, 10th December at 4pm (doors open 3.40pm). The Gaiety's Christmas shows are always a great hit, and we're sure this year will continue the tradition!

Santa has come down with a cold and the only person who can step in and take over some of Santa's duties is his cousin Bob ...... with the help of the audience!! Come along and enjoy this interactive show for young children and their families!

Many thanks to everyone who came along to the Christmas Tree Lighting on Monday. Congratulations to Ella McPake, this year's recipient of the Margaret Currie B.E.M. Award For Citizenship, and thanks to Mrs McGuire, Albert and Bruce Gardner for switching on the tree lights. Finally, a big thank you to the pupils of Fairlie Primary for getting everyone into the Christmas spirit with excellent entertainment!

All welcome to the Christmas Tree Lighting at the Village Hall tomorrow, 1st December, from 7pm. The evening will start with the presentation of the Margaret Currie BEM award to the Young Citizen of the Year, followed by the Tree Lighting and entertainment from Fairlie Primary. After the formalities, Christmas refreshments will be served.

The Gaiety's Christmas children's show is coming to the Village Hall on Wednesday, 10th December at 4pm (doors open 3.40pm). Don't miss Santa's Cousin Bob, an interactive show for 2-7 year olds and their families. Popcorn, sweets, soft and hot drinks will be on sale for Village Hall funds.

This year's Christmas Tree Lighting at the Village Hall will be held next Monday, 1st December from 7pm. The evening will include the presentation of the Margaret Currie BEM Award to the Fairlie Young Citizen Of The Year and entertainment from Fairlie Primary, and festive refreshments will be served after the formalities. It’s the week before Christmas and Santa has come down with a cold! Everyone else is busy doing their own jobs. There’s only one person they can ask to step in and take over some of Santa’s duties ....… Santa's Cousin Bob!

FAIRLIE'S MEN OF THE GREAT WAR

Corporal William Speirs, only son of William and Janet Speirs, lived at Clederion and Winton Place. He was killed in action in Belgium aged 22, initially having been reported missing on 30th September, 1918, and a year later presumed to have been killed on that date. He is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium.

Sapper Hugh McLelland, son of George and Jane McLelland, lived at Railway Buildings. He died of pneumonia in France on 9th December, 1918, aged 28, and is buried at Denain Communal Cemetery, Northern France.

FAIRLIE'S MEN OF THE GREAT WAR

Private Angus McLean was the son of Archibald and Margaret McLean of Oakbank, husband of Agnes and father to two young daughters. He was severely wounded in action in April 1917 and hospitalised for a long period, returning to the front in July 1918. He died of wounds in hospital in France on 20th September, 1918, having been badly gassed the previous week. He is buried in Terlincthun British Cemetery, on the outskirts of Boulogne, France. His brother Alexander, who is also named on the Roll of Honour, survived the war.

Private John McLean Fraser, husband of Susan, was chauffeur to the Earl of Glasgow. He died of gunshot wounds in the field in France on 10th September, 1917, aged 30, and was buried in Dunkirk Town Cemetery, France.

Lance Corporal William Balchin, husband of Jane, was butler to the Earl of Glasgow. After enlisting in 1915, he saw considerable service in Egypt. He transferred to France in 1918 where he died of wounds at an ambulance dressing station on 17th October, 1918, aged 37, and is buried at Quietiste Military Cemetery, Le Cateau, France.
