OCTOBER HOLIDAY CLUB | LIMITED SPACES AVAILABLE!

A small number of spaces have become available for our October Holiday Club!

We have limited the number of responses our booking form can accept, meaning the form will automatically close once all remaining spaces have been filled.

Important information:

* If you have already completed the booking form, your child’s space is confirmed. There is no need to complete it again.
* All children attending must be registered using this form.
* Unfortunately, any child who has not been registered through the form will not be able to attend.

When the shift was chaos but the team was class.

What a night at Goodtrees! 89 young people joined us, with a great mix of new faces and familiar ones and a real buzz across the centre.

Our Invisible Backpack workshop was a real highlight. The backpack represented a young person’s mind, with each water bottle adding a different worry or pressure. As it got heavier, it showed how much someone might be carrying without anyone else seeing it.

It sparked thoughtful, encouraging conversations about looking after our mental health, who we can turn to and what might help lighten the load. Young people had space to reflect on conversations with their pals, the importance of checking in and how we treat each other. Some loads are heavy, and we don’t always know what someone else is dealing with.

There was also an important reminder that support doesn’t make every worry disappear straight away. Some things take time, ongoing support or additional help to work through.

Our Behind the Smile art activity explored the difference between how we appear and how we feel. The topical question, “Why is it sometimes easier to say ‘I’m fine’ than tell someone how you’re really feeling?”, generated loads of discussion about what makes opening up difficult and what helps us feel safe enough to talk.

And alongside all that, young people were singing and dancing together, getting on the karaoke, playing games, making their own toasties and having all sorts of conversations.

Seeing those connections happen across the night, with plenty of laughs and space for the bigger conversations too, is exactly why youth work matters.

Fantastic recognition for our Junior Youth Workers and the contribution they make to our local community.

We’re so proud of everything they continue to achieve, both individually and as a group. A big thank you to Ian Murray MP for taking the time to recognise their efforts.

Free Parenting Support Session at Goodtrees

We’re pleased to be hosting one of the City of Edinburgh Council’s Bitesize Parenting Support sessions here at Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre.

Delivered by Penumbra, this session will focus on supporting young people who self-harm, providing practical information and support for parents and carers of teenagers and pre-teens.

Monday 5th October, 6.30pm to 7.30pm
Goodtrees Neighbourhood Centre, 5 Moredunvale Place, EH17 7LB

The session is free and there’s no need to book, just drop in.
