Youth Scotland We are Scotland’s network for community-based youth work. The common goal that we all share is better outcomes for young people.

We are the largest national youth work organisation in Scotland, supporting 116,979 young people, 2,430 youth groups from 628 member organisations and over 12,348 youth workers. Youth Scotland has been around since the early 20th century and has a diverse membership network – from small rural youth groups to large urban projects.

This year, Youth Scotland's membership has continued to increase and currently stands at 628 membership organisations who run 2,430 member youth groups, reaching 116,979 young people and 12,348 youth workers, of which 7,614 are volunteers.

➡️ Our network spans 32 local authority areas
➡️ 71% of groups are support are based in urban areas and 29% rurally
➡️ Two thirds of our members operate in SIMD 1-5 areas

This week is Su***de Prevention Awareness Week and today is World Su***de Prevention Day. Su***de Prevention Scotland has some very approachable and helpful resources to support practitioners to start conversations about this challenging topic.

What if asking about su***de could save a life? is Su***de Prevention Scotland’s campaign to support anyone in having a conversation that could save a life.

Su***de is a topic that makes many of us nervous; it can feel like the hardest thing to ask someone about:

What if I say the wrong thing?
What if they say yes?
What if it gives them the idea?
But lots of people don’t realise... If you’re worried about someone, asking them ‘are you thinking about su***de’ is the best way to prevent it from happening.

Gen+ and Youth Scotland have partnered to allow learners to achieve an SCQF Level 3 Award through participating in the Gen+ programme. To allow schools to get ahead of the curve, we are running an info session in August.

✏️ When? Monday, 14 September
✏️ Where? Online

Schools participating in Gen+ can now follow a direct pathway to the Dynamic Youth Award, gaining SCQF points while completing the programme. This a meaningful opportunity for schools seeking meaningful, credible recognition of young people's wider achievement while allowing young people to gain meta-skills.

In this ingo session we will walk you through the Gen+ programme, how to get started and through inspiration on ensuring the programme is incorporated correctly across the curriculum to make the most of the resources available.
Youth Scotland's awards team will also be there to deliver information around the Dynamic Youth Award and how to gain accreditation.

Last weekend, our Amplify – Supporting Youth Voice programme joined young people from across Scotland at Youth Scotland’s Big Ideas Weekend!

Thanks to National Lottery players, 23 young leaders from four member groups built on their iLead Engage experience by progressing through iLead Empower. As part of the weekend, they developed their Amplify Action pitches before presenting their ideas to a panel of experienced youth work professionals.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the young leaders to develop their skills, share their ambitions and take the next step towards creating change in their groups and communities.

Thanks to National Lottery players, Youth Scotland has received more than £1.5 million over three years from The National Lottery Community Fund , the largest community funder in the UK. The funding is being used for our Amplify programme, to embed the voices of young people in community decision-making.
