A little reminder from us at Kin Collective ☀️

As parents, we're often the first to offer encouragement, patience and understanding to everyone around us.

But what if we offered a little of that kindness to ourselves?

This week, notice how you speak to yourself. When things don't go to plan, when you're feeling overwhelmed, or when you're questioning whether you're doing enough.

Try speaking to yourself as you would a friend.

With compassion.
With understanding.
With grace.

Because parenting was never meant to be done perfectly. It was always meant to be done with love. 💛

That Yoga Lass Jackie’s lovely Mummy Yoga & Play class is on Thursday mornings at Kin

Getting back to yoga after having a baby can feel very different, and that’s okay 💜

Mummy Yoga is a safe, supportive space to ease back into movement at your own pace. No pressure, no expectations.

Bring the chaos, the crying, the feeds, the snacks, and the chats in between. Wee ones are always welcome exactly as they are.

Because yoga looks different in this season… and that’s perfectly enough ✨

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating the incredible people who give their time, skills, and kindness to support Kin Collective.

Whether you're welcoming families, offering a listening ear, helping behind the scenes, or sharing your experience to support others, you help make Kin the warm, inclusive community it is.

Your contribution reaches far beyond the hours you volunteer. You help parents feel connected, supported, and less alone.

From all of us at Kin Collective, thank you. We are so grateful for everything you do. 💛

Kin Works Collective Voices - Thank You! Over the past few weeks we’ve heard from so many of you about how much parents and carers are carrying, and we’ve seen how powerful it can be when those experiences are shared out loud.

Collective Voices was created to make space for honest conversations about raising a family in Scotland right now. The realities behind the routines, the joy, the pressure, the juggling, the isolation, the resilience.

Kin Works is a grassroots community of working parents based in Leith. We meet monthly in person, creating space for connection, conversation and solidarity. If you’re navigating this season and need community around you, we’d love you to join us.

Thank you for trusting us with your stories and for being part of this collective conversation.

Kin Works Collective Voices - Part 4
More stories. More about what isn’t working.
The rush to secure childcare before your baby arrives.
The pressure to plan your return while still recovering.
Policies that don’t always match real life.
Shared leave that isn’t always affordable.
Flexibility that isn’t guaranteed.
Support that can feel out of reach.
The relentlessness of it all.
But people are starting to speak up. To question. To share.
Kin Works is proud to be a part of that.
A space for honesty and shared experiences.
This is Collective Voices. Real life, real stories.

Kin Works Collective Voices - Part 3
More stories. More of the reality behind “returning to work.”
It’s not just logistics - it’s what you’re returning to. Careers reshaped, priorities shifted, identities evolving.
There’s the mental load - constant planning, covering childcare gaps, using annual leave for sick days.
There’s the financial balancing act - working out if more hours actually pay off.
And there’s the identity shift - who you were before, and who you are now.
At Kin Works, these conversations are out in the open. Shared honestly, met with understanding.
This is Collective Voices. Real life, as it’s happening.

Come walk with us 🌿

On World Maternal Mental Health Day - Wednesday 6th May - we’re teaming up with Edinburgh Buggy Walks and Dr Bell’s Family Centre for a buggy walk and picnic.

We’re meeting at the community notice board on Leith Links (what3words: loved.movie.club) at 2pm and heading out together at a relaxed pace.

Walking together and being outdoors can make such a difference to how we feel. This is about being with others, shining a light on maternal mental health, and reminding ourselves that we’re not alone.

After the walk, we’ll gather for a picnic so bring a blanket and some snacks and stay as long as you like. We’ll be based by the play park.

Everyone is welcome, whether you’re coming for company, conversation, or just to get out of the house. It’s free to join and you can register on the Kin Collective eventbrite.
