Lovely day for a garden party - join us in Seaford today!

It's the end of an astonishing 20-year run of fundraising garden parties by these incredible hosts in Seaford, and they're signing off by opening their garden a final time on Sunday 14 June (11am to 4pm), with all donations coming to Friends of Eastbourne Hospital. A beautiful garden to visit, the event will also offer refreshments including cakes and drinks, ploughmans’ lunches and cream tea, along with live music and a tombola and raffle. Admission is free with donations very welcome. Please do visit and enjoy all that is on offer - it's the last event of its kind, and we are very grateful to have been nominated as the final beneficiary of such a legendary local event.

Whilst the weather we're currently having is certainly unusual, we are thankfully nowhere near the extreme conditions we experienced at some of our gardens last year. We will be opening the gardens of the Old Vicarage at Firle tomorrow, a traditional English country garden, nestled in the heart of the South Downs. Sun or the odd shower, don’t miss the chance to see how the owners are gradually making changes to reflect the effects of climate change and the growing awareness of gardens being in harmony with nature. Refreshments will be available to purchase and enjoy, and the gardens will also feature stalls and a raffle. We recommend bringing cash as card payments can be unpredictable due to poor mobile reception. Admission is free, with donations very welcome.

Royally proud of the Friends of Eastbourne Hospital this week as our contribution to the Sussex Surgical Centre was recognised at the unit's formal opening by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester. One million pounds' worth of equipment is now in use in the centre, raised by incredible Friends fundraising. Chairman Harry Walmsley, Vice-Chairman Hugh Parker and Trustee Ann Caffyn attended the ceremony on behalf of our Trustees, members, supporters and volunteers, without whom this enormous donation would not have been possible. Thank you to everyone who supports us, please do take a bow - or curtsy.

There can be few things more quintessentially British than a cup of tea in a fine country garden - with sunshine being an added bonus! Tomorrow we offer all that at Carters Corner Farm - a large country garden and attached smallholding, whose south-facing garden comprises a formal parterre with white roses, large borders with mixed planting, a formal rose garden and a white wisteria walk. This all sets off a small lake with ornamental bridge, pavilion and jetty. The remaining park-like garden has mature trees and a new Ornamental Pear avenue which leads to a pretty eight-acre woodland. There is a large vegetable garden and surrounding orchard adjacent to paddocks. There are sheltered areas, and seating around the land, some spots with distant views to the Downs.

Please do join us and enjoy this glorious garden, along with refreshments, stalls and a raffle. Admission is free, with donations very welcome. We regret, we cannot accept dogs.

Whilst we can't claim this as one of the gardens in our official Open Gardens programme, this special event (which is supporting the Friends independently) is a super way to start the season! A local event, held at 4 Rochester Close in Meads, these ornamental gardens are being opened and turned into a garden gallery of art by Liddy and Abi Davidson - all of which will be for sale, alongside refreshments (please do bring cash though as mobile network is unreliable). Open from 10.30am to 2.30pm, all are welcome to this event, and the admission is free. Please do be advised however, that the garden is not suitable for those in wheelchairs or with disabilities due to difficult access.
