Bishopstoke Players Bishopstoke Players Bishopstoke Players is a drama group based near Eastleigh in Hampshire.

We perform three productions a year, generally in January, May and September, and take part in one-act Drama Festivals across southern England. Our home for many years was Bishopstoke Memorial Hall but, since that hall was condemned in 2021, we have been based a few miles down the road in Durley Memorial Hall. The Players were formed in 1947 to raise money for what was then the National Children's

Home. Fast forward 75 years and the group has presented more than 200 dramas, comedies and pantomimes, and donated many thousands of pounds from our profits to the same charity, now renamed Action for Children. This friendly group is a thriving member of the local drama community and we regularly receive awards and nominations for our work. We were awarded the first ever Stephenson Award by NCH in 2005 for our long-standing commitment to this leading children’s charity.

It’s official! Our autumn play is ‘Sherlock Holmes and the Chronological Conundrum’, written by our very own Adrian Barrett and directed by Barry Kitchen (The Railway Children, The Shadow Factory).

Open auditions for this hilarious comedy caper will take place on Tuesday 26th May at Durley Memorial Hall, starting at 730pm prompt.

Last night was our final dress rehearsal before ‘Be My Baby’ opens on Thursday evening. We played to a small private audience of members and we can honestly say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house! Our wonderful actors and crew have created something very special indeed.

Our opening night is tomorrow and there are still a few tickets available. Grab yours today for an evening of fantastic entertainment (and don’t forget your hankie!!).

Pantomime may be over for another year but we don't stop! Our May play is 'Be My Baby' by British playwright Amanda Whittington.

It’s 1964 but the sixties aren’t swinging for Mary Adams: 19 years old, unmarried and pregnant. She is sent in secrecy and shame to St. Saviours, a Church of England mother-and-baby home run by a formidable Matron.

Mary is set to work in the laundry and shares a room with the tough-talking Queenie. The girls in the home bond over a love of girl-group records, which entertain, console and inspire as the birth of their babies approaches. When Mary finds she is expected to give up her child for adoption, she begins a desperate fight.

There will be a full reading of this play on Tuesday 27th January (1930-2200) with open auditions on Thursday 29th January (1930-2200) at Durley Memorial Hall, Durley Brook Rd, Durley, Southampton SO32 2AR. Everyone is welcome!

Cast requirements are for six females (four aged 16-25 and two aged 35-50).
