Over the next few weeks as we reflect on the end of Year One of our Strategy 2025-30, we'll be sharing what we have achieved so far for people and nature.

The output from our volunteer teams across the UK has been phenomenal! From the thousands of trees planted creating a network of pocket forests to facilitating better access to nature by restoring metres upon metres of paths and (sadly) removing bags upon bags of litter, our work has connected people to nature - and that work is delivering powerful results.

Volunteers are always at the heart of our work and mobilising thousands of you together has resulted in THIS.

A small, but mighty group of corporate volunteers from Sage joined us today in the heat β˜€οΈ

We prepared, created and extended a wood chip accessible footpath along part of the Ouseburn, a 5-mile urban stream (or burn) which runs through Jesmond Dene and into the River Tyne πŸŒŠπŸŒ€

Well done everyone for working so hard in the hot weather πŸ₯΅πŸ’ͺ

Take your butterfly spotting to the next level πŸ¦‹

This summer, let's all support Butterfly Conservation's Big Butterfly Count which is running until the 9th August and see how many species you can spot.

TCV - The Conservation Volunteers have created a free printable Beginner's UK Butterfly Spotting Guide featuring 12 common UK butterflies, identification tips and key food plants.

Download it, take it on your next walk and see how many species you can tick off this summer!

Friday was a great end to the working week. We were joined by an enthusiastic team from Sage to tidy up and maintain the long public footpaths between the two car parks at Havannah & Three Hills Nature Reserve in Newcastle πŸŒΏβ˜€οΈ

Well done everyone πŸ’ͺ

Invasive Species Week (22-28 June 2026) is an annual event led by the GB Non-native Species Secretariat to raise awareness of non-native species (plants and animals), how they threaten the survival of native wildlife, cost the economy £2 billion a year and how we can all help to reduce their impact 🌱

Himalayan Balsam!

This time last year, the TCV North East team and some of our volunteers were helping a local council by working at Tyne Riverside Country Park clearing Himalayan Balsam from the Reigh Burn! πŸ’š

Himalayan Balsam is a Invasive Non-native Species that overpowers our native plants. It spreads at an incredible rate and crowds out smaller species of wildflower! By removing Balsam in June/July we can stop it from getting to seed and expanding!

We then returned in July to clear the remaining pockets that were too small to remove in the first phase. We even pulled our wellies on to carefully climb into the river to access those hard to reach places 🌱🌱
