Congratulations to Lucy for winning the hedgehog awareness week art competition! 🏆

An incredibly creative, skillfully made 100% alpaca wool jumper with hedgehog-themed colours, hedgehogs on both sides, and an illustration of a 'hedgehog highway'. 🦔

Thank you to everyone who submitted an entry for the art competition, it was incredible to see all of your hard work and dedication to the sustainable and hedgehog-friendly themes! 🌿🌎

Make sure to keep an eye out for the leaflets that Lucy's artwork features on around campus.

The results are in...

Thank you to everyone who volunteered to help us bake and sell for our bake sale, and to everyone who bought our baked goods, helping us to raise an outstanding amount for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society!

Donations like these are essential for funding research, conservation and outreach work to help populations of hedgehogs around the UK, helping to build on the society's already substantial impact.

We hope you all enjoyed your bakes and that you'll join us in future hedgehog-friendly work!!🧁🦔

Nominations for the 2024 Durham University Volunteering Awards are open!

These are annual awards to recognise outstanding student and staff volunteers and projects within the university. If you know any volunteers or projects who you think deserve to be recognised, please don’t hesitate to nominate them. Nominations need to have substantial justification (at least a sentence) so that our judging panel has enough information to make informed decisions.

To find out more about the categories and make nominations please follow the link: https://duvolunteering.webspace.durham.ac.uk/?page_id=1459

We’ve had an amazing start this term!

Thank you so much to all of the wonderful volunteers who have been putting up posters, coming along to help with the camera trap survey and getting involved with Hedgehog Friendly this early on.

Call for Donations!

Students and staff are free to leave some donations for Bernie's Hedgehog Rescue Durham, one of the few hedgehog-specific rescues that work within Durham.

The donation box can be found in the volunteering office in the palatine centre over on the science site. Donations will be accepted from Wednesday 22nd February until Friday 3rd March.

Check through our slides for inspiration and suggested donations. If you don’t have the time, you can buy items from the rescue’s Amazon wishlist (a link to which can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/bernieshedgehogrescue/posts/pfbid02PKTjp8fvdEjxmUq3Kuq499XM5FPa8nZAp8MK8Pq6im5nziivukLtkk6hdHRfFdSVl) and they will be shipped directly to them. Monetary donations are also welcome, but certainly not expected, and payment details can also be found in our bio.

We understand that times are hard, so we are very appreciative of any donations that you are comfortable and able to make! We chose to help Bernie at this time as she has continued to work on protecting hedgehogs despite numerous personal challenges and we wanted to give back directly to someone who helps to conserve our local hedgehog population.

Many thanks again!

Apologies for the short notice - I had forgotten I had only posted this to Instagram!

Join us this Sunday for some fresh air and good vibes! 🌞

We will be hosting a wellness walk, starting from the Racecourse at 2pm and ending by the Old Durham Gardens Farm.

If you have any leftover veg or fruit (such as courgette, pepper, carrots, cucumber, apples or pears) do bring this along as you can then feed this to the pigs at the farm! There are only two pigs, so any leftover food can be donated to the farm and fed to the animals at a later date.

Please do check online whether the food you bring is safe for the pigs! For example, they don't digest uncooked potatoes very well, though they are fine once cooked.

If you fancy coming along, do please complete the sign up form here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe9kmGk4kN4gk-YILKLHtVaoEwgk0SuHrpAjUWCph4aDAUDww/viewform

Have a great week! 🦔
