Samuel's Charity

Samuel's Charity Samuel knows 'Every Sick Child Needs a Smile'. Bringing light to a dark, scary and painful time.

Samuel lost his battle on 22nd Jan 2014 to a very rare form of cancer, a Precursor T Cell Lymphoma, a Blood Cancer. During his time in hospital he has been through a lot - especially the vast amount of medicines and their side effects. Samuel has been an inspiration to those around him, his courage and personality are phenomenal. He wanted to start this charity to help other sick kids and their fa

milies get through this tough period and improve their time in hospital, a time that is stressful, painful and sometimes scary. Please help Samuel's memory and others like him, the money he raises will benefit kids and their families through this dark and often scary time, a time when they need help and support the most. The charity improves the day to day lives of kids at St Georges Hospital in London. This hospital has little focus and lacks many basic things we all take for granted. Once the children's wards are improved here we will, with your support, do the same at more hospitals.

This week’s shoutout goes to Kamsi. 👏

He completed the Hyde Park 10K and raised over £400 for Samuel’s Charity.

That support helps us keep children moving from hospital care back into the comfort of home, with the right support in place so families aren’t left figuring it out alone.

Last year, 61 children were able to make that move with our support in place.

Kamsi, thank you for showing up, putting in the miles, and backing our work. We really appreciate it. 💙

This Volunteers’ Week, we celebrate the incredible people who make Samuel’s Charity possible.

Behind every smile, every act of kindness, every family supported, and every special moment created for a seriously or terminally ill child, there is a volunteer giving their time, energy, and heart.

We never do this alone. 🩵

To every volunteer, past and present: thank you for your dedication, your generosity, and your unwavering support. You are an essential part of Samuel’s legacy and the hope we bring to children and families across the UK.

Every toy we deliver, every meal we fund, every smile we help create — it all began with one brave boy named Samuel.

Samuel knew what it felt like to be scared, in pain, and stuck in a hospital bed. But he also knew how powerful kindness could be.
His wish was simple: to make hospital life a little brighter for other children going through the same thing.

That wish became Samuel’s Charity — a promise to bring comfort, fun, and hope to seriously ill children across the UK.

✨ This is why we do what we do:
- To bring light into the hardest days.
- To support families when they need it most.
- To remind every child they are seen, valued, and loved.

You can help keep Samuel’s legacy alive.
🩵 Donate to fund toys, meals, and moments of joy
🩵 Get involved by volunteering or fundraising in your community

Together, we can turn his wish into a lasting impact.

On 23rd May, Francis is doing something incredibly brave for Samuel’s Charity… a Wing Walk!

“Over the years, I’ve taken on my fair share of adrenaline-fuelled experiences, but this one feels very different. When Martin Leib from Samuel’s Charity put out a call for Wing Walk volunteers at a networking event, I knew it was something I couldn’t ignore… even if I’m still feeling very nervous about it!

On Saturday 23rd May 2026, I’ll be taking to the skies (with a few butterflies along the way), and I’d love to raise as much money as possible for Samuel’s Charity to support the incredible work they do helping children and young people with serious, complex or terminal illnesses.”

💙 Help Francis make a difference for children who need support, care, and hope.

“🤍 Maternal Mental Health Day

When a child is discharged from hospital, support doesn’t always follow them home.

For many families, this can lead to overwhelm, unmet needs, and unnecessary hospital readmissions. This pressure often falls heavily on mothers.

Samuel’s Charity was founded by parents who experienced this reality firsthand after losing their son. They saw how difficult it can be for families once a child leaves hospital, especially when the right support isn’t in place at home. In 2025, we launched our At Home Project and began working alongside Single Point of Access services to ensure families receive the guidance, coordination and practical support they need beyond the hospital setting.

We provide a 24-hour support line to help reduce failed home transfers and avoid unnecessary readmissions.

Our focus is clear:
support families at home, strengthen discharge pathways, and reduce repeat hospital visits caused by gaps in care.

We’re here for mums, dads and families when it matters most. 💚

One person. One race. A real difference 💙

Today we would like to thank, Andy! He ran the Brighton Marathon for Samuel’s Charity, raising over £400.

That’s more than just a fundraising total.

It’s enough to support over 20 children on hospital wards for an entire year.

It helps create brighter, more comforting spaces.
It gives children access to games, connection, and moments of escape from fear and isolation.

Just £19 can support a child on a ward for a year. This helps improve wards and playrooms, and also aides children with entertainment and sensory equipment
If you’d like to support, fundraise, or get involved, we’d love to have you with us. For more information - www.samuelscharity.org.uk

An incredible group took on the Paris Marathon in support of Samuel’s Charity, raising over £10,000.

This incredible money raised means we can focus on the practical things that make a real difference for children in hospital, including comfort kits, sensory and distraction resources, and equipment like AcuVein devices that help reduce pain during procedures.

For many children, hospital is not just treatment. It is fear, pain, long stays and isolation. Samuel once asked, “so what about all the other children then?” — and that question still drives everything we do.

A special thank you to the runners who made this possible:
• Aisling Goodbody
• Stuart Hyde
• Katie Hollingworth
• Nick Brennand-Carter
• Scarlett Howard
• Michael Clark
• Craig Hughes
• Alex Barrett
• James Ainsworth
• Alison Francis

We also want to thank for sponsoring the marathon places and James Ainsworth for his continued support and fundraising.

From all of us at Samuel’s Charity, thank you for helping us change how care feels for children who need it most 💛
