Samuel knows 'Every Sick Child Needs a Smile'. Bringing light to a dark, scary and painful time.

Samuel lost his battle on 22nd Jan 2014 to a very rare form of cancer, a Precursor T Cell Lymphoma, a Blood Cancer. During his time in hospital he has been through a lot - especially the vast amount of medicines and their side effects. Samuel has been an inspiration to those around him, his courage and personality are phenomenal. He wanted to start this charity to help other sick kids and their families get through this tough period and improve their time in hospital, a time that is stressful, painful and sometimes scary. Please help Samuel's memory and others like him, the money he raises will benefit kids and their families through this dark and often scary time, a time when they need help and support the most. The charity improves the day to day lives of kids at St Georges Hospital in London. This hospital has little focus and lacks many basic things we all take for granted. Once the children's wards are improved here we will, with your support, do the same at more hospitals.

In 2025, Samuel’s Charity launched the At Home Project to support children who are ready to leave hospital but are still there due to practical delays outside of their medical care.

In the UK, a number of children remain in hospital even after they are medically well enough to go home.

This is often due to gaps in equipment funding, delays in arranging home adaptations or care packages, and the time it takes to align different services so everything is in place safely.

The At Home Project works alongside NHS teams, community care providers, and local partners to help close those gaps.
The focus is on coordination, timely support, and making sure families have what they need so discharge can happen safely and with confidence.

It also helps reduce pressure on hospital beds, while ensuring children are not left waiting in clinical environments longer than necessary.

For families, it can mean fewer delays, clearer communication between services, and a smoother transition into home life when the time is right.

Every so often, we revisit memories that remind us why Samuel’s Charity exists.

This video, captured a few years ago during our One Big Thank You for Martin, brings together so many of the moments that continue to shape our work today. It reflects the people, partnerships, and shared purpose behind every project we deliver for children and families across the UK.

While much has changed over the years, our focus remains the same: helping make children’s hospital care a little more comfortable, supporting families through difficult days, and working alongside NHS teams to bridge the journey from hospital to home through initiatives like our At Home Project.

Looking back is a reminder that every act of kindness, every fundraiser, every volunteer, and every donation becomes part of a much bigger story.

A huge congratulations to Sam from Navigator, who has reached the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro!

What started as a tough and rocky journey ended with an incredible achievement. Sam described it as the hardest thing he has ever done, and we couldn’t be prouder of his determination and commitment.

Not only has he conquered Africa’s highest peak, but he has also raised over £490 for Samuel’s Charity. This will help bring fun, hope and relief to the lives of children in hospital by providing pain reducing equipment as well as ensory, craft and educational items.
