🧐 Murder Mystery! 🕵‍♂️

Our NCO team organised an incredible murder mystery night tonight at 1777 for the squadron.

The cadets teamed up to solve a movie theatre murder. This put their critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills to the test!

They did a fantastic job cracking passwords, finding clues, and investigating reports! 🕵️‍♂️

Well done everyone, and a huge thank you to our NCOs for a brilliant night! 🙌

🏆 What an achievement for 1777 (Dumbarton) Squadron!

A huge congratulations to everyone at 1777 Dumbarton Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets, who have officially received the Morris Trophy at RAF College Cranwell, marking an exceptional achievement on the national RAF Air Cadets stage.

The Morris Trophy is awarded to the squadron placed runner-up in the Corps-wide Lees and Morris competition, which seeks to identify the very best squadrons across the RAF Air Cadets. It recognises sustained achievement, strong performance and the delivery of an excellent Cadet Experience over time.

Put simply, 1777 Dumbarton have been recognised as one of the very best squadrons in the entire Corps.

That is an incredible achievement and one the whole squadron community should be enormously proud of. It reflects the commitment of the cadets who make the most of every opportunity, the volunteers who give their time to make those opportunities possible, and everyone behind the scenes who supports the Squadron throughout the year.

It is also a fantastic moment for West Scotland Wing Royal Air Force Air Cadets and Scotland & Northern Ireland Region, showing what can be achieved through sustained teamwork, commitment and a determination to give cadets the very best experience possible.

📸 Pictured below are Sqn Ldr Forsyth and Sqn Ldr Herd, collecting the award on behalf of 1777 Dumbarton Squadron at RAF College Cranwell, alongside Group Captain Khan Regional Commandant.

A massive congratulations to the entire 1777 Dumbarton Squadron family. Second in the Corps is an extraordinary achievement, and very well deserved. 👏🏆✈️

Commandant Air Cadets Royal Air Force Air Cadets Lowland Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Association

13/09/2026

Last week we said a bittersweet goodbye to one of our finest, as Flight Sergeant Laura Gunn officially "aged out" of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets as she turned 20.

She first walked through our squadron doors as a quiet, but determined 13-year-old. Over the last seven years, she has transformed into an exceptional leader, taking every single opportunity that came her way. Through dedication and hard work, she mastered the Progressive Training Syllabus, advanced through the academic classifications, and earned the rank of Flight Sergeant.

From squadron nights and annual camps to fieldcraft, first aid, and leadership—FS Gunn truly did it all. She ends her phenomenal cadet career on an absolute high, boasting some of the most prestigious achievements available to a cadet:
🏅 Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award
🥇 Air Cadet Leadership Course (Gold Badge)
🪖 Gold Fieldcraft
🥾 Nijmegen 4 Day Marches

Laura always gave the cadets her absolute all, inspiring everyone around her. While she will be hugely missed on parade nights, she is continuing her studies at university, and we know she has an incredibly bright future ahead.

We will all miss you at 1777! 🙌💼

⭐️ Cadet of the Month ⭐️

A massive congratulations to Cdt Ryden our Cadet of the Month for August! 🏆

Despite being one of our younger cadets, Cdt Ryden has truly shown everyone how it’s done. From flawless attendance and immaculate uniform standards to throwing herself into every event, her dedication has been outstanding.

An inspiration to the whole squadron—keep up the fantastic work! 👏✈️

⭐️NCO of the Month ⭐️

Congratulations to Cpl McCairn and Cpl Wallace, who have jointly been named our NCO's (non commisioned officers) of the Month! 🥇🤝

Both Corporals have set the bar incredibly high this August, leading by example with perfect attendance, sharp dress standards, and excellent dedication to squadron events.
Thank you both for your leadership and hard work. Brilliant effort! 👏
