– Did you know that 2026 marks 40 years of Beaver Scouts across the UK? 🎉🦫⚜️

Beavers are one of the youngest section of the Scout family (just after Squirrels!), for young people aged 6-to-8 years of age, offering a space to try new things, make friends, and start their Scouting adventure.

The section began rolling out across the UK in the early 1980s and officially became part of The Scout Association in 1986 - meaning generations of young people have now started their journey in Beavers.

Here in Dunbartonshire, we’re proud to have 11 Beaver Colonies across our district, giving young people their very first taste of adventure. For many, it’s where confidence begins to grow and friendships are made that last through the years.

Here’s to 40 years of Beavers and many more adventures to come! 🥳

👉 Want to join the adventure or know a young person who would love Beavers? Get in touch or find your local group today!

With 12 Scout groups across the district, there’s likely one just around the corner from you!

Why not get your child involved in the adventure? Or better yet, volunteer and help even more young people experience everything Scouting has to offer.

Our Beavers and Cubs had an amazing time this week learning fire lighting skills with the use of flint & steel. They then put their new skills to delicious use! They cooked hot dogs over their campfire, toasted marshmallows to perfection. 🌭🔥🪵

Nights like these remind us just how valuable Scouting can be!

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the fun, we’re always looking for new adults to join our volunteer team. Even an hour a week can make a huge difference - and you might discover a few new skills of your own!

👉 Interested in volunteering? Drop us a message - we’d love to hear from you.

- Did you know Scouts shake hands with their left hand?

All around the world, Scouts and Guides greet each other with the left-handed handshake. The tradition takes inspiration from the Ashanti warriors of West Africa.

When Lord Robert Baden‑Powell met them, they explained their customary greeting to shake hands with the left hand, you must lower your shield - the very thing that protects you - and extend the hand closest to your heart. ❤️

Scouts and Guides still honour that tradition today. 🌍✨

🐿️ - Squirrels Scouts Celebrate Their 5th Birthday! 🎉

Did you know that 5 years ago, the youngest branch of UK Scouting officially scampered into life - Squirrels, for ages 4 to 6, became a brand‑new way for young people to begin their Scouting adventure.

Now, in 2026, we’re celebrating their 5th Birthday as part of Scouting’s “Triple Birthday Year,” marking a milestone for this growing and exciting early‑years programme.

Here in Dunbartonshire, we’re proud to have three thriving Squirrels Dreys: 1st Rhu, our pioneering Drey launched in 2022, followed by 1st Helensburgh and 5th Dumbarton. Each week, our Squirrels dive into hands‑on activities, outdoor adventures, games, stories, and early life‑skills.

🙌 Help Us Grow
We’d love to offer even more Squirrel Dreys across the district, but we can only do that with more volunteers. If you’d like to make a difference in your community, gain skills, or simply support young people, please consider volunteering with your local Scout Group.
✨ Small time commitment.
✨ Big impact for young people.
✨ Open to everyone.

Today our Scout Section based in Riverside School planted 180 Wild Cherry, Rowan, Hawthorn and Silver Birch saplings in their shared school grounds as part of the Woodland Trust’s tree planting campaign.

The Scouts worked incredibly hard to dig, plant, cane, cable tie and plastic wrap the saplings and are looking forward to watching them grow over the coming months and years.

On the 1st of August 1907, Baden-Powell held the very first Scout camp on Brownsea Island, bringing together 20 boys from different backgrounds for a week of adventure, teamwork and learning. That small camp marked the beginning of the worldwide Scouting movement we know today.

To celebrate that legacy, we recognise the 1st of August as World Scarf Day - a day where Scouts, both current and former, wear their neckies as a visible symbol of Scouting and the values we live by.

📸 We’d love to see your Scarf Day photos!

Throughout tomorrow we would love you to tag us in your pics Scouts, comment them below, or email them to our Comms Team at [email protected].

Let us know which group you belong (or belonged) to - and we’ll do our best to share as many as we can across our social media channels throughout the day.

Let’s show the world what Scouting means to us.
