Avoiding difficult conversations doesn’t make things easier — it often leaves people carrying more than they need to.

Sometimes one honest conversation, held with care and without judgement, can help create understanding, connection, and a way forward.

That’s why safe spaces matter.

Hi everyone,

We’ve started working through our Community Training Register of Interest to offer spaces for our upcoming ASIST and safeTALK training.

Unfortunately, some people haven’t replied to their training offer within the timeframe given, so these spaces have now been offered back out to others on the register.

To help us manage places fairly, anyone who does not respond when offered a free training space may be removed from the register.

We still have spaces available, with more training dates coming soon, including:

ASIST
safeTALK
Scotland’s Mental Health First Aid
And other community training opportunities

If you’re interested in attending free community training, please fill in the register below and we’ll be in touch when spaces become available.

As we come to the end of Volunteers’ Week, we want to reach out to our local community.

Mentor Scotland is a peer-to-peer mental health support group, and volunteers are at the heart of what we do.

We’re currently looking for men and women volunteers to support our Friday evening peer support group, along with other groups and activities that are starting over the next few months.

We’re also looking to grow our capacity in Helensburgh, so we’d be keen to hear from people in that area who would like to get involved.

You don’t need to have all the answers. What matters most is having the right values, being willing to listen, and wanting to be part of something that supports people in a safe, non-judgmental way.

We have a Volunteer Coordinator in place who will help support, train and guide volunteers so they feel confident in their role and understand how we work as an organisation.

We’re looking for support across different areas, and if you have ideas for groups or activities that align with Mentor Scotland and our values, we’d be happy to hear from you.

We’re always looking to grow our capacity so we can provide more support to people in the local community.

If this sounds like something you would like to be part of, please complete our volunteer application form and we’ll be in touch:

Sometimes the hardest part is taking that first step.

We know coming along to something new can feel a bit daunting, especially if you’re not sure what to expect or who you’ll meet when you arrive.

At Mentor Scotland, you’ll be welcomed by one of our volunteers, shown around, and given the chance to ask any questions before joining in with anything.

Whether it’s peer support, a talking group, cold water therapy, or one of our other sessions, we want people to feel as comfortable as possible before getting involved.

A wee conversation beforehand can sometimes make that first step feel a bit easier.

No pressure. No judgment. Just a warm welcome when you’re ready.

Volunteers’ Week 💙

One of the most powerful things about Mentor Scotland is the community that has grown through volunteering.

Many people come along because they want to help others. They give their time, show up, listen, support, and help create the safe spaces we offer each week.

But what we often see is that volunteering supports the volunteer too.

Being around people with a shared purpose can make a massive difference. It brings connection, belonging, confidence, and a sense of being part of something meaningful.

Some of our volunteers have been through difficult times themselves. Some have been in a place where they needed support, and now they want to give something back.

That lived experience, kindness, and shared purpose is helping create a strong community within Mentor Scotland.

This is what peer support can look like when people come together with care, respect, and understanding.

Volunteers’ Week 💙

This week, we want to take a moment to say thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, care, and commitment to Mentor Scotland.

Our volunteers help create safe, non-judgmental spaces where people aged 16+ can connect, share, and feel part of a community.

Through kindness, consistency, and lived experience, our volunteers help break the stigma attached to mental health and make a real difference in people’s lives.

Thank you for being part of Mentor Scotland.

Let’s start the conversation and end the stigma attached to mental health 💙
