Our first Duke of Edinburgh Award practise expedition is starting today - involving a hike and then setting up camp for a night under the stars!
Good luck to all of the young people taking part in this, don't forget your hats and sun screen.
Our first cohort has gone brilliantly so far with great volunteering placements and learning new skills, we are very proud of you all.

We have been busy bees!

On Friday 15th May we held our annual charity golf tournament and raised some £2,500 for Tapping House Hospice. After hours of intense competition all golfers and support staff sat down to a sumptuous buffet and the chance to regret the missed putts, the wayward drives and other dodgy shots. The Winning Team with 89 stableford points was Stow Cricket Club represented by Mark Skipper, George, Dan, and Jamie Cook. The picture shows Rotarian John Ebbage (organiser of the day) with his happy crew of lady golfers.

Then this last Sunday (24th May) we organised the French Café in the Clock Room of the Town Hall with tables spilling out onto the Town Square. A dozen or so Rotarians, suitably garbed in berets, Breton shirts and some (of the male Rotarians) even sported moustaches to enhance the French 'feel' as waiters and waitresses. The café was situated in the Clock Room of the Town Hall with further tables outside on the Town Square. French flags and bunting decorated tables and any other available surface! Again, a substantial sum was raised to support a local good cause. Thank you to everybody who came and enjoyed a croissant and/or a cheeky glass of wine. The other pictures speak for themselves, knobbly knees and all

Mark Sunday 24th May (2026) in your diary and pop along to the Clock Room in the Town Hall which will be transformed into a French café, for charity, for the day. The room opens directly off the town square (facing the clock) and if weather allows tables will also be placed outside. Coffee and croissant available and many other French themed tasty bits plus you can enjoy a sneaky glass of wine. The Café marks the first day of the 2026 Downham Market Festival.

A great evening at our charity quiz on 10th April. 84 keen quizzers sat down to a challenging evening thanks to question master Steve Nunn and his wife Chris. As ever they excelled themselves with the quality of the quiz causing a lot of head scratching! £630 was raised to help us to support local causes like the Food Bank.

Rather rudely referred to as a 'pratt with a hat', oh, and the crimewatchers poster top right has nothing to do with us! We don't care - we were collecting for a really good cause this weekend at Morrisons - Marie Curie. Thanks to all who made donations big and small - believe it or not we learnt that Downham Market generates more donations than the equivalent location in Norwich! Be proud.

A lovely note from Yvonne Moore at Downham Market Foodbank acknowledging our ongoing regular donations: Thank you so much for your wonderful donation and for your continued support of our Foodbank. Kind contributions like yours enable us to keep providing food to people in crisis and supporting the most vulnerable members of our community when they need it most.
I’ve attached the photo taken during today’s Foodbank session.

In the picture is Rotarian Tony Firrell and Yvonne. Please think about supporting the Foodbank which provides a vital service to those who need support. If you'd like to donate via Rotary please message us and we'll give you details. 100% of anything you give via us will be passed on to the Foodbank.
