Dorking District Scouts

Dorking District Scouts As Scouts, we believe in preparing the young people of Dorking with . We bring our community together and help contribute to our local society.

Above all, we aim to prepare our young people for better futures Dorking District Scout Council (Charity Number 291556) is part of The Scout Association of the United Kingdom and is 1 of 18 Scout Districts which together make up Surrey Scouts. We provide everyday adventure for 600 young people in the heart of the Surrey Hills.

Our Scouts are do-ers and give-it-a-go-ers. Yes, we go camping, hikin

g, swimming, abseiling, cycling and canoeing. But we also get to hang out with our friends every week – having fun, playing games, working in teams and taking on new challenges. Every week we give 600 6-25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life. Everyone’s welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your child’s physical ability – there’s a Scout adventure out there waiting for them, and we’ll help them find it.

📢 Could you help shape the future of Dorking District Scouts?

We're launching an open selection process to recruit new members to the Dorking Didtrict Scouts Trustee Board, and we'd love to hear from anyone who might be interested.

We're currently looking to fill the following volunteer roles:

🔹 Chair of Trustees
🔹 Treasurer
🔹 Trustee Board Members

The Trustee Board plays a vital role in supporting our District behind the scenes – helping to ensure we are well managed, financially secure, and able to continue providing amazing opportunities for our young people.

You don't need to have a Scouting background to get involved. We welcome people with a range of experiences, skills and perspectives. Whether you have experience in finance, governance, administration, fundraising, HR, communications, or simply a passion for supporting local young people, we'd love to hear from you.

If you'd like to find out more, or would like to express an interest, please contact Colleen Wheeler on [email protected] by 04/07/26.

Please also share this with anyone outside our Scout community who you think might be interested. Thank you for helping us keep Dorking Scouts thriving for years to come. ⚜️

⚜️ Happy St. George’s Day, Dorking! ⚜️

What a fantastic afternoon we had yesterday! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our St. George’s Service of Celebration. It was truly special to see our District come together to celebrate our patron saint and, more importantly, to hear the church filled with the sound of our Scouts renewing their Promises.

While the spirit of Scouting is its own reward, we had some very special people and groups to celebrate today for going above and beyond.

💐 Thank you for your service!
Finally, today was bittersweet as we shared our deepest gratitude for Marilyn and Janice, who will be retiring at the end of this term.
Between them, they have given decades of good service to Dorking Scouts. Their impact on generations of young people is immeasurable. While we will miss them dearly, they leave behind a legacy of adventure and kindness.

Thank you again to everyone who made today so memorable. Here’s to another year of adventure in Dorking!

Yours in Scouting,

Alex (Sunshine ☀️)

This morning we had the privilege of welcoming Martin Cosser to Dorking Scouts to share his story and the work of Charlie’s Promise.

It was heartbreaking, honest, and incredibly powerful.

Martin spoke about his son Charlie, the devastating impact of knife crime, and the importance of education, awareness and open conversations with young people. His courage in turning unimaginable loss into a mission to protect others is truly inspiring.

Our Scouts listened thoughtfully and respectfully, and the message was clear: knowledge saves lives, and talking openly matters.

We are so grateful to Martin for giving his time to help educate and protect our young people. It cannot be easy to relive such personal pain, but his willingness to do so may make all the difference to another family.

Thank you, Martin, for trusting us with Charlie’s story and for the vital work you continue to do.

Anyone can truly anonymously report someone carrying a knife to Fearless on 0800 555 111.
