March is here, the days are getting longer and soon the bluebells will be flowering and fingers crossed for more dry days.

Happy 90th birthday to the@hurtwood_hideout it might be a new name but the building celebrates 90 years this year!

Thanks for the invite to the celebration of the youth hostel. It is so inspiring hearing the history and just how many people have stayed and experienced the Surrey Hills and we are so glad it’s remained open through everyone’s efforts to keep it locally run.

Well done to Matt and Tim and everyone involved - it has a bright future with some exciting things planned! It has really opened up to all with toilets and the cafe indoor and outdoor seating, as well as partnering with to set up if you need something fixing or to hire a bike from. Not many photos taken as I was too busy chatting! Actually riding Holmbury tomorrow with the mtb crew and it’s quickly becoming a favourite stop

Surrey Hills National Landscape 2025 symposium held at the University of Surrey

Zoë & Esther went along as the Surrey hills is the reason girlsALIVE is able to do what it does! Hiking, riding, swimming and more - being out in nature in so many ways.

We support the aims, purpose and work of the and working towards the 2100 goals of sharing and preserving our amazing heritage of the Surrey Hills National Landscape.

Thanks to for the delicious Biriyani and samosa and for the grape juice and to the many organisations and businesses represented - lots of think about how we can support and collaborate to diversify and make the Surrey Hills more accessible. We both wrote down our ideas for the £5 million and added them to the tree in the foyer.

Thanks to Rob and the team at Surrey Hills National Landscape for a thought provoking event

A huge well done to our MTB members Emme and Jane on their recent amazing achievement!

“Jane and I have had a fantastic three days doing the Wines2Whales MTB event in Cape Town. Amazing scenery, some tough going and lots of fun doing it together 😍. I’m amazed at how training for an event works! We even came first on day 3 in our category 💪! (Women aged 50-59, six pairs). Thank you partner!

Day 1 61 km/1150 m
Day 2 67 km/1350 m
Day 3 63 km/1250m

Total time in the saddle 16h 32 m!

This would not have been something I would have even considered achievable if I hadn’t joined Girls Alive and enjoyed doing more riding with all you lovely people. That was a lucky day when I bumped into Zoë and others on Holmbury Hill!

Looking forward to more rides together in the Surrey Hills and beyond.”

Emme had been putting on training rides for the last few months and did a simulated 3 days of back to back riding in the Surrey Hills with similar distance and elevation.
Although the weather was clearly better in SA!
We love hearing what our members get up to and are planning for themselves often it can give you a reason to get out having an event or goal to be training for.
