On Friday, a group of young people from Dorchester Youth & Community Centre travelled to London for a day of exploration and new experiences. For many, it was their first time visiting the capital, making the trip a truly memorable milestone.
Throughout the day, the group took in some of London's most famous sights, including the Houses of Parliament, 10 Downing Street, Horse Guards Parade, and Buckingham Palace. We also visited the Science Museum and even squeezed in a ride on a London Bus and a trip on the London Underground to make sure everyone had the whole London experience π
The trip provided valuable opportunities to build confidence, communication, teamwork, and independence, while experiencing life beyond their local community.
The journey home didnβt go quite to plan, with major train cancellations out of Waterloo. However, the young people handled the disruption incredibly well, showing real resilience and patience. We eventually all made it home around 1am, thanks to some amazing parents who stepped in to help at the end of a very long day and rescued us from Bournemouth station!
We are extremely proud of how all our young people represented DYCC throughout the day.
But the biggest thank you goes to Willdoes2004 for funding the trip and making this opportunity possible.
