GREYHOUND TRUST WEST YORKSHIRE
Thinking of Getting A Dog? … Think About Getting A Greyhound! Greyhound Trust West Yorkshire has been finding homes for greyhounds for almost 2 decades and we want to find more! Still young when their racing lives come to an end – and ready to adapt to a new life as great pets - these amazing athletes are people-loving, calm, gentle and patient; and often become much-valued therapy dogs. They don't need vast amounts of exercise nor a lot of space. All they need is love and security, a comfy bed, some good food and a couple of walks each day. We usually have about 16 greyhounds waiting for homes and work hard at 'matchmaking' - finding the right greyhound to suit your individual circumstances – whether you are single or a family, younger or older, there can be a greyhound for you! Today is National Black Dog Day! 💚🖤

Did you know that, on average, black dogs spend longer in shelters waiting for their forever homes than dogs of other colours? 🥺

Sadly, black dogs are often overlooked when people are searching for their new family member. 🐾 But their colour doesn’t change who they are!

They have just as much love to give, just as many happy moments to share, and are just as happy stealing space on the sofa! 🥰

So, if you’re thinking about homing a dog, please consider a black dog next time you’re looking. You might just find your perfect match waiting for you. 💚

Find your local Greyhound Trust branch and see the black dogs waiting patiently for their forever homes:

What does it feel like for a greyhound to retire? When we find them a home, they re-discover the joy of living and being loved. And 1 in 3 greyhounds are homed thanks to gifts in Wills.

Jeremy and Fiona Wilkinson have asked for this to be posted - We sadly had to say goodbye to our beautiful Freddie this weekend. 💔🐾
We adopted Freddie through the West Yorkshire Greyhound Trust seven years ago, shortly after his racing career had come to an end. Back then he was known as NowURlaughing, or Larry in the kennels, but to us he became Freddie — our amazing puppa and a much-loved member of our family.
From the moment he came home, he was the most wonderful companion. Such a gentle, loving boy with the sweetest nature. He gave us seven fantastic years filled with so much love, happiness and countless special memories.
Freddie absolutely loved the monthly greyhound gatherings and seeing all his fellow hounds and their humans. They were always a highlight for him, and it was lovely for us to remain part of the greyhound community that had brought him into our lives.
Our home feels incredibly empty without him and we miss him more than words can say, but we'll always be grateful to the West Yorkshire Greyhound Trust for bringing Freddie into our lives and giving us the privilege of sharing his retirement with him.
Run free, beautiful boy. From NowURlaughing, to Larry, to our Freddie — you were loved every single day. ❤️🐾🌈
And to everyone lucky enough to have a greyhound curled up somewhere nearby, please give them an extra-big hug and an extra treat from Freddie today. ❤️
I am sure that you will join us in passing on our heart felt condolences.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Due to the merger of Dewsbury Rams with Huddersfield Giants and the upgrading of the facilities, we are unfortunately no longer able to hold our monthly meet and greets there.
We are working on finding an alternative venue and will update the website and page as soon as we can. In the meantime, we would like to say how grateful we are to the staff at Dewsbury Rams for all the help and support they have given us.
