🎉 It's Learning Disability Week! 🎉

Learning Disability Week happens every June. It's a time to celebrate people with learning disabilities and the important role they play in our communities.

The theme, “Do you see me?”, asks people to notice, listen to, and include people with learning disabilities, and to value them for who they are.

Everyone deserves to be heard - that's why the Calderdale Self Advocacy Network helps people with a learning disability feel empowered and make a difference in their community. If you'd like to find out more, visit: https://f.mtr.cool/iwhvsksuhc

📣 This week is , 8th–14th June

Carers Week is a national campaign that celebrates the incredible contributions made by unpaid carers. It’s also an opportunity to raise awareness and help people who may not recognise themselves as carers to access the support they need.

Caring often means providing more than day-to-day help — it can include supporting communication, advocating for the right services, attending appointments, and helping someone live as independently and fully as possible.

By raising awareness, we can help build more understanding, inclusive communities where carers feel valued, supported and able to access the help they deserve.

🕒 Today is the deadline to submit evidence to the Government’s Timms Review.

We’re proud to share that Cloverleaf Advocacy has submitted our evidence, shaped by the voices of people we support. This includes insights gathered through peer and self-advocacy groups, as well as one-to-one interviews with neurodivergent people, people with learning disabilities, people with mental ill-health, and unpaid carers.

The Timms Review is an independent review looking at how the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) system can be improved, with a focus on making it fairer and more accessible for those who rely on it.

Cloverleaf Advocacy’s CEO, Suzi Henderson, said: “PIP is a lifeline for many of the people we support. While we understand the current system may not be perfect and there may be a minority who misuse it, removing this support or creating further barriers to people who already often feel marginalised could have a devastating impact on those who genuinely rely on it. We hope the Timms Review carefully considers the evidence we have shared and uses it to create a system that is fairer, more accessible and truly reflects the real experiences of people it is designed to support.”

With the high temperatures we are seeing this week, it's important that we all know the steps to take to stay safe and look after ourselves, and those we care for. ☀️

Anyone can become unwell if they get too warm, but this is particularly true for those who are vulnerable and at high risk. This includes people over the age of 65, children, people on certain medications or those with an underlying health condition.

Below is a list of government advice on how to stay safe in the heat:
