WVS Veterinary Taskforce: Kodaikanal spay/neuter campaign

The Taskforce team is currently in Kodaikanal, India, carrying out vital animal birth control (ABC) surgeries alongside our Mission Rabies vaccination campaign. Every dog receiving surgery is also being microchipped and vaccinated against rabies. Alongside this, the team has been treating injured animals, including a dog with its head trapped in a plastic jar, another with wire embedded in its leg, and a puppy suffering from a severely infected limb.

Meet Tobu 💛

Tobu is just 7 months old, and he’s already survived more than most ever should.

Born at a railway station in South Goa, Tobu was rescued after a terrifying accident that left his front paw crushed under a moving train.

His injuries were devastating, and the kindest option was to amputate his leg to free him from pain and prevent infection.

Thanks to the swift action of his rescuer and the care of our vets at WVS Hicks, Tobu got the second chance he so desperately needed.

Today, this brave little boy is a happy, tail-wagging tripod, safe and loved by his favourite human. 🐾

Tobu’s story is a reminder of why rescue matters - and how your support helps us give animals like him the chance to heal, recover, and live the life they deserve.

Last month, we shipped 99 veterinary aid parcels to support animal charities and NGOs around the world - helping provide vital care for animals in need.

Thank you to everyone who donates and supports our work. Together, you’re helping make these life-changing care parcels pawsible 🐾

“The places you visit and the people you meet are unlike anything you’d experience as a tourist. You see communities in a much more real and raw way, and you leave feeling genuinely connected to the work you’ve done and the people you’ve met.”

One of the things that makes our vaccination campaigns so special is that we welcome volunteers from all backgrounds.

This Volunteers’ Week hear from Hamish - a third-year biomedical sciences student at the University of Edinburgh - who joined us during our Cambodia vaccination campaign in October 2025.

📍 Mulaló, South America

Last month, we ran a mobile clinic in the Junta del Agua de los 5 Barrios, southern Mulaló, helping raise awareness for an upcoming sterilisation campaign. 🐾

Community members attended with their animals to receive guidance and learn more about preventive care and responsible population management.

We were also joined by three veterinary students from Universidad Internacional del Ecuador (UIDE), gaining valuable hands-on field experience for the very first time. 💚

Sweet puppy Scar was left badly injured after being cruelly stoned while out walking in his village. 💔

When he arrived at the clinic, he was in a lot of pain and unable to bear weight on his front leg. Thanks to urgent veterinary care and surgery, Scar is now on the road to recovery.

Just a few days after his operation, this brave boy was already beginning to walk on his leg again - and he’s now back home resting safely with his family while he heals. 🐾

We’re so grateful Scar got the chance he deserved!
