With Music In Mind

With Music In Mind With Music In Mind C.I.C. runs informal singing, exercise and social groups for people aged 50+. All our groups run at regular intervals during the daytime.

With Music In Mind's singing and exercise groups for people aged 50+ enable our older members of the community to get together to sing, socialise and have fun whilst forming new friendships and gaining confidence through peer support. Our singing groups are led by a musical director and involve singing, chatting and other activities that are suggested by the participants. Anyone of any background

and singing ability can take part. It really doesn't matter whether individuals can sing as the benefits of singing are relevant to all. These benefits include increased confidence, stress reduction, improved quality of life and improved wellbeing and general health. Our exercise groups follow a similar structure and are led by qualified instructors. All exercise can be completed standing or seated, and there is never any pressure. There are many proven benefits to exercise for both physical and mental health. Groups are intended to be an ongoing, long term support network so that individuals can attend for as long as they want. As groups increase in size and reach capacity, new groups will be created to accommodate growing numbers. With Music in Mind is a Community Interest Company, so any funds raised will go directly into service provision for the benefit of service users.

Happy Age Without Limits Day!🤩

Age Without Limits Day is an annual day for us all to come together and take action to end ageism - as individuals, with friends and family, in our communities and in our workplaces.

To mark this year's Age Without Limits Day, we're holding an Open Day tomorrow at our Barry Singing Group, featuring an hour of singing, refreshments, games, and the first performance of brand new intergenerational choir, Côr Y Galon. Join us 10:30-12:30 at Margaret Alexander Community Centre, CF62 7HU - we'd love to meet you!

It's Carers Week!

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support. If you're a carer, lots of info about getting support, looking after yourself, and more, can be found here: https://www.carersweek.org/about-carers-week/information-for-carers/

We are proud to support carers at With Music In Mind. Carers always come in free at our groups when they attend with the person they care for, and as often as we're able we run dedicated events for unpaid carers. Look out for our video later this week celebrating our most recent carers event - a lovely weekend away to rest and enjoy!

With Music in Mind and Côr Y Galon are celebrating Age Without Limits Day!

We are holding a FREE open day at our regular BarrySinging Group on Thursday 11th June. Come along for a fun morning of singing, friendship, refreshments and games followed by the debut performance of new community choir, Côr Y Galon.

The event is FREE to attend for all new and non-members. Looking forward to meeting you!

Thursday 11th June, 10:30-12:30 at Margaret Alexander Community Centre, Barry, CF62 7HU.

🎶🎶🎶

Côr Y Galon is an accessible, intergenerational community choir for
anyone over 16+ and all levels of confidence and experience.

Since January they have been training their brains to sing in harmony, strengthening their vocal ranges and lungs and trying to learn new songs off by heart! They have also learnt more about each other’s lives and interests, shared A LOT of laughter and encouraged younger members doing their GCSEs.

They meet Mondays 3.45-4.45pm at Y Galon Community Centre, The Broad Shoard, Cowbridge. All are welcome from 3.15pm for refreshments and a chat.

Your kindness and generosity week after week brings invaluable help running our groups and activities, and makes a huge difference in our mission to reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing in our community. Looking forward to this very much!

We're delighted to work in partnership with the wonderful team at With Music In Mind to bring this accredited Mental Health First Aid course to Cowbridge!

A Mental Health First Aider course is similar to 'physical' First Aid - we cover things like:

✅Preparing to provide support

✅Workplace considerations

✅Recognising signs and symptoms

✅Responding to a person who has become unwell

✅When to call 999 / 112

But instead of CPR, choking and bandages, we're covering things like panic attacks, eating disorders and psychosis. Would you know how to recognise and signpost somebody in distress?

It's our half term break! With the exception of Barry Singing Group, all of our Singing and Exercise Groups are closed this week, and will return as usual in the week beginning 1st June.

Although Barry Singing was scheduled to be closed this week, we have decided to run it as normal to make up for the couple of sessions we had to miss earlier this month. See you there - and to everyone else, see you in June! Have a lovely week's break😊
