It’s been a busy few weeks at 2300 Squadron as we welcome the Summer and move to our Summer HQ.

With the first day of sunny weather we were outside learning how to use camp stoves to prepare us for our Summer camping trip and future Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, and why not brew up some lovely hot chocolate while we do it 😊

We also said hello to our new Commanding Officer, Squadron Leader Jason Horton, Welcome Sir! We all hope you settle in soon and enjoy your time with us.

We have been busy in the local community as well and were delighted to again be invited to attend and help out with the St Athan Community Council Civic Ceremony at St Athan church. It is always a privilege for us to be a part of our local community and supporting the local Council in its events is something we look forward to and value.

With all of this going on we have managed to fit in some shooting practice and our cadets are beginning to qualify for their shooting badges on various rifles including the L98A2 Cadet GP Rifle which is a semi automatic version of the British Armed Forces service rifle. Well done all.

Finally we were very happy indeed to make a presentation to a friend of the Squadron, Royal British Legion member Mr Ben Lawson, who has given his time and drawn on his 70 years of drumming experience to train our Squadron Band and get them “Parade Ready”. Ben has had to stand down this year so we surprised him at last nights RBL meeting with a thank you card and gift to show our appreciation for his support. Thank You Ben, we look forward to giving you a wave as we march by at this years parades.

If you like what you see on our page, please give us a call or message us about joining our great team as a Cadet or as a member of staff. There are great opportunities for a huge range of activities including Flying, Gliding, Adventure activities such as climbing, Mountain Biking, Water sports, STEM activities, Shooting and Fieldcraft, Duke of Edinburgh, BTEC qualifications, Annual Camps, Sporting events and much more.

Good morning, I hope you’re all making the most of the hot weather ☀️
We just wanted to take a moment to please remember about water safety, especially when it comes to swimming in lakes, rivers, and other open water.
These areas can be incredibly dangerous. Strong undercurrents aren’t always visible, and the water temperature can drop suddenly, which can lead to cold water shock and seriously affect your ability to swim.
It’s really important for you to not be tempted to swim in these places, even when it looks calm or inviting.
If you do want to swim, always choose lifeguard manned beaches and swim between the flags, where it’s monitored and much safer.
