Belgium opened their World Cup campaign with a draw against Egypt this evening.

The Red Devils are up and running, we'll be following their progress closely over the coming weeks.

Congratulations to Germany on a brilliant 7-1 victory in their opening World Cup match.

A great start to the tournament for the German team and a result that will no doubt have our friends in Ettlingen celebrating this evening! 🥳

🌍✍️ What a lovely afternoon at the Clevedon LitFest Bandstand Takeover!

It was wonderful to see pupils from Clevedon and our German twin town, Ettlingen, come together to perform their poems.

Over the past year, these young people have explored themes of conflict, empathy and understanding through poetry, building connections across borders and learning from one another's experiences.

A huge well done to all the students who took part. Their confidence, talent and thought-provoking poetry made it truly memorable.

Thank you to Clevedon LitFest for providing the opportunity to showcase this project and to everyone who came along to support these young poets.

⚽ The Football World Cup kicks off today! 🌍

Over the coming weeks, we'll be keeping a close eye on the nations of our three partner towns:

🇫🇷 France – Épernay
🇩🇪 Germany – Ettlingen
🇧🇪 Belgium – Middelkerke

We'll be cheering them on throughout the tournament ... .. unless they happen to be playing England of course 😜

Football has a wonderful way of bringing people together, and that's something we know a little about through the friendship links between our twin towns.

🇩🇪 This time next week, six students and two teachers from our twin town Ettlingen will be arriving in Clevedon.

Their visit marks the next chapter in an international poetry project, which has seen young people in both towns exploring themes of conflict, empathy and understanding through poetry.

Following workshops delivered by Never Such Innocence in both Clevedon and Ettlingen Schools, teachers selected the three strongest poems from each school. As a result, three pupils from Anne-Frank-Realschule and three students from Wilhelm-Lorenz-Realschule will be visiting Clevedon to represent their schools and sharing their work.

During their visit, the students will spend time at Clevedon School, experiencing life in a British school and meeting the young people involved in the project.

The highlight of the visit will be on Saturday 13th June, when pupils from Clevedon and Ettlingen take to the stage at Clevedon LitFest Bandstand Takeover to perform their poems in front of an audience.

🇫🇷☕ French Conversation Group ☕🇫🇷

Our next meet up will take place on:

📍 The Little Harp, Clevedon

Whether you’re looking to practise your French, build confidence in conversation or simply enjoy meeting fellow language enthusiasts, we’d love to see you there.

The group is suitable for anyone who can already hold a basic conversation in French, and new members are always welcome.

Following this meeting, the group will meet regularly on the second Thursday of every month.

Earlier this week, right in the middle of the great British “heatwave”, we swapped ice creams for mallets! Despite the heat, we thoroughly enjoyed our social evening at Nailsea & District Croquet Club ☀️🏑

A huge thank you to the club members who welcomed us and patiently talked us through the rules, showed us techniques and advised on where the ball was actually supposed to go.

Some members quickly revealed hidden croquet talents. Others discovered that aiming, strategy and coordination are perhaps slightly overrated.

A brilliant evening of sunshine, laughter and friendly competition!

2026 is a special year for Clevedon! 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇧🇪

This year we are proudly celebrating the 35th anniversary of Clevedon’s friendship links with both Épernay and Middelkerke.

To mark the occasion, we’re looking forward to welcoming a group of visitors from Épernay to Clevedon this June 🇫🇷 we will then be travelling to Middelkerke in September to mark the occasion with our Belgian friends 🇧🇪

For 35 years these international friendships have brought people together through cultural exchange, shared experiences and lasting connections. From hosting visitors and sharing meals, to discovering each other’s towns and traditions, these partnerships continue to build strong links between our communities.

Here’s to 35 years of friendship… and many more to come ❤️
