🤝 A lovely afternoon of shared ideas with fellow twinners!

Today, Clevedon Twinning Association was delighted to host a meeting of the Devon & Somerset Twinning Circle.

These gatherings bring together twinning groups from across the two counties, providing an opportunity to catch up, share experiences and hear about the exciting activities and exchanges taking place between our communities and their international partners.

🌍🗣️ Happy European Day of Languages! 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇩🇪🇧🇪

Today celebrates the wonderful variety of languages spoken across Europe and the way they help bring people together. 💙

Language is a part of the friendships we share with our partner towns of Épernay 🇫🇷, Ettlingen 🇩🇪 and Middelkerke 🇧🇪.

It’s not about being fluent it’s about finding ways to communicate! A Bonjour, Guten Tag or Goedendag, a few words learned over a shared meal and occasionally a bit of enthusiastic pointing can go a surprisingly long way! 😄

Because learning another language isn’t just about words — it’s about discovering different cultures, making connections and opening doors to new friendships. 🤝🌍

So today, why not learn a new word or phrase in another language?

Last but certainly not least from our wonderful weekend in Belgium…

On Sunday morning, we received a very warm welcome at Middelkerke Town Hall, where the Burgemeester (Mayor) and Aldermen were there to greet us.

There were heartfelt speeches reflecting on the strong friendships and connections that have grown between our towns over the 35 years of our partnership – friendships that continue to bring people together across generations and borders.

Our Clevedon Twinning President was also presented with a beautiful photograph of Middelkerke’s new seafront casino – a very special gift and a lasting reminder of our visit.

We had weekend filled with friendship, laughter, new experiences and plenty of wonderful Belgian hospitality!

Long may the connection between Clevedon and Middelkerke continue to grow! 🇧🇪🤝🇬🇧

🚜🐄 A very different side of Middelkerke! 🇧🇪

We were lucky enough to be visiting during Landbouwweekend – Middelkerke’s agricultural weekend, when farmers and producers from across the area come together with their machinery, animals and local produce.

The seafront was absolutely buzzing! We loved wandering amongst the displays, seeing some impressive farm machinery, meeting a few of the four-legged visitors and, of course, sampling some of the local produce… 🥓🧀🍺😉

One of the best things about visiting our partner towns is getting to experience the events and traditions that are part of local life. Landbouwweekend gave us another opportunity to discover more about Middelkerke and the surrounding area – and we thoroughly enjoyed it! 🖤💛❤️

While there were plenty of laughs and fun during our weekend in Belgium, there were also some quieter and more reflective moments.

Our visit to the Ganzepoot Monument and WESTFRONT.Nieuwpoort gave us the opportunity to look back at the history of the Belgian coast and the events that shaped it during the First World War.

Standing in a place with such a significant past was a poignant reminder of the history that surrounds the towns and communities we visit.

Twinning is about friendship, shared experiences and looking to the future — but sometimes it’s important to pause and remember the past too. 🇧🇪🇬🇧

🇧🇪 Our first evening in Middelkerke! 🍻

What better way to start our weekend of celebrating than with a visit to the Jus de Mer brewery in Middelkerke?

We were treated to a tour of the brewery and, of course, it would have been rude not to sample a few of the beers along the way! 🍺😉

Afterwards, we enjoyed a traditional Brueghel-style meal together — a lovely evening for our Clevedon travellers and their Middelkerke hosts, with plenty of good food, conversation and laughter.

A perfect start to a weekend celebrating 35 years of friendship between Clevedon and Middelkerke. 🇬🇧🤝🇧🇪
