One little jump and we’ve made it all the way to the Marktfest in our partner town of Ettlingen! 🎶🎉

The Clevedon Twinning Association Pimm’s stall is up and running, the Pimm’s is flowing and we’re ready for a fantastic weekend celebrating with our friends from Ettlingen, Middelkerke and Épernay. 🇬🇧🍹🇧🇪🍻🇫🇷🍾🇩🇪 🤝

🏴⚽🇫🇷 What an incredible way to finish our World Cup journey!

Congratulations to the three lions and
huge credit to both teams for such an exciting game!

There were some remarkable individual achievement:

🇫🇷 Kylian Mbappé became the all-time leading goalscorer in World Cup history.

🏴 Jude Bellingham sealed the victory with the final goal and finished as England’s leading scorer of the World Cup.

The World Cup adventure is over for all four nations connected to our partner towns. We’ve loved following the tournament and cheering on for our friends in Épernay, Ettlingen and Middelkerke along the way.

Now we wait four more years before doing it all again! 🌍⚽

A few of our members had an early start this morning as they met BBC Bristol presenter Joe Sims, who was broadcasting live from Clevedon Marine Lake.

Naturally, conversation soon turned to tonight's World Cup semi-final between 🇫🇷 France and 🇪🇸 Spain! With our Twinning links to Epernay, we'll be cheering on Les Bleus and we're predicting a French victory! 💙🤍❤️

That said, we're also keeping our fingers crossed that England can book their place in the final tomorrow. If we get the dream final of France vs England, our twinning loyalties may have to take a back seat... because, of course, we'll be backing the Three Lions! 🏴🦁

Allez les Bleus tonight... and come on England tomorrow! ⚽

🇫🇷 Bonne Fête Nationale! Happy Bastille Day! 🇫🇷

On Sunday, a small but enthusiastic group came together to get the celebrations started with our annual Bastille Day Boules.

Despite the hot weather, we enjoyed a lovely afternoon of friendly competition, laughter and, as always, great company. There were some impressive boules skills on display… and a few questionable shots that we'll blame on the heat! ☀️😄

Days like these are a wonderful reminder that twinning is all about bringing people together, celebrating different cultures and creating lasting friendships.

To all our friends in Épernay and to everyone celebrating today, Vive la France! 🇫🇷🤝🇬🇧 Vive le Jumelage!

🇫🇷☕It was lovely to welcome so many new faces, alongside our regulars, to our French Conversation Group this afternoon. Full of interesting conversations, plenty of enthusiasm... and even a bit of singing! 🎶🇫🇷

There was lots of laughter, lots of encouragement in a relaxed atmosphere as everyone practised their French together.

This morning, one of our committee members was delighted to attend Clevedon School’s Celebration of Voice at Walton Castle 🙌

Organised entirely by the students themselves, the event gave pupils the opportunity to showcase the inspiring projects they have been working on throughout the year. From weather stations and bicycle repairs to creative writing, poetry and even baking scones, it was fantastic to see such a wide range of ideas presented with enthusiasm, confidence and pride 👏

Working alongside local organisations including Sustainable Clevedon - a Transition Town, Curzon Cinema Clevedon and, of course, Clevedon Twinning, the students have delivered some truly impressive projects while making a positive difference in our community 🤝

A huge congratulations to everyone involved. You should all be incredibly proud of what you have achieved and the way you represented your school.

We are especially excited to continue building our partnership with Clevedon School, creating even more opportunities for young people to connect with our twin towns through future exchanges, cultural projects and international friendships. 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇩🇪🇧🇪

🥱⚽ Who else is feeling a little tired today? ⚽🥱

That England match was at a rather silly hour this morning... but we’d say it was worth it! 🏴👏

Congratulations to the Three Lions on their victory over Mexico and a place in the World Cup quarter-finals! What a way to start the day.

Next up it’s Belgium. 🇧🇪 The Red Devils face fellow host nation USA tomorrow, meaning another very early start for supporters on this side of the Atlantic.

Good luck to Belgium, we’ll be supporting for our friends in Middelkerke, of course... but this time it may be in our sleep. We’re not sure we can manage another alarm at that hour! 😴🇧🇪

🇫🇷 🇬🇧 A Perfect Finale to a Wonderful Weekend 🚤

To round off our Anniversary celebrations with Épernay, we spent Sunday morning exploring Bristol together, enjoying a harbour boat trip and taking in the sights of the city Bristol Packet Boat Trips

It was the perfect way to spend our final hours together, relaxed, full of conversation and a chance to reflect on everything we had shared over the weekend.

As our friends returned home, they took with them more than memories of Clevedon and Bristol. They took new friendships, fresh ideas and an even stronger connection between our communities.

Over the past two weeks we've looked back at each stage of our anniversary celebrations but the real success of the weekend can't be measured by the events themselves. It's measured by the friendships strengthened, the new partnerships formed and the excitement for what comes next.

Thank you once again to everyone who helped make our 35th Anniversary celebrations so memorable.

We now look forward to our next international gatherings, as we visit our friends in Ettlingen for Marktfest this August and celebrate the 35th Anniversary of our partnership with Middelkerke in September.
