Today we celebrated International Day of Play with our Families Matter groups at The Churn Community Hub. ๐ŸŽ‰

As part of the Family Hub network, we are proud to support Gloucestershire's Play Strategy and showcase the positive impact that play has on children's wellbeing, development and family relationships.

This year's theme, "Protect Play, Protect Childhood," reminds us of the importance of giving every child the opportunity to play, learn and thrive. UNICEF

In Families Matter today, children enjoyed exploring a range of play stations, including water play, bingo dabbers, play dough, balancing with foam bricks and a shopping list game. There was lots of splashing, creativity, problem-solving and fun as the children moved between activities and tried new things.

To help keep the play going at home, each child took home an activity pack containing a play dough recipe, cream of tartar and food colouring.

At The Churn Community Hub, play is at the heart of our Family Service activities, helping young children build confidence, creativity and important social skills before they start school.

Today is Age Without Limits day to mark people coming together to take action to end ageism.

So it was a great day for Sarah from our Ageing Well team to visit local community groups such as the the one at Cirencester Baptist Church and find out how we can create a local community where people can thrive as they age.

This is all part of the three year Age Friendly Cotswolds initiative that The Churn Community Hub is a partner in.

Last Wednesday, our Sociable Strollers braved the rain for two very wet walks around Cirencester and South Cerney.

Thankfully, the weather brightened just in time for our visit to Fresh Air Sculpture in Quenington. The sunshine made for a lovely afternoon exploring the beautiful gardens and enjoying a preview of the wonderful sculptures on display.

Thank you to Fresh Air Sculpture for this wonderful opportunity.

Have Your Say - Age Friendly Cotswolds

The Churn Community Hub is part of a new initiative called Age Friendly Cotswolds that aims to work alongside older people to strengthen connection and wellbeing so that our communities support people not just to live longer, but to thrive as they age.

A crucial part of this is to hear directly from you, older people living in the South Cotswolds, helping to shape what we do together. To help us do this, please take a few minutes to complete our survey:

Our Mum and Baby Group is a small, friendly, informal space for young mums and their babies to connect, socialise and play, while accessing any extra support they may need.

Weโ€™re also joined by a Community Nursery Nurse once a month, who offers support and a baby weighing service.

Last week, one of our play activities involved exploring ice and water with lemons to make it an extra-sensory experience for the little ones.

We were delighted to take part in the first Stronger South Cotswolds event on Saturday at Cirencester Baptist Church.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with other charities, community groups, volunteers and businesses. All with a shared commitment to building a stronger, resilient and more connected South Cotswolds community.

A huge thank you to Roz Savage MP and her team for bringing us all together. We look forward to seeing how this develops and builds and being a part of it as a Local Legend!

Our Move Together programme is a gentle exercise class designed to support older people to improve both their physical and mental wellbeing.

Sessions include balance and resistance band exercises, with recent classes focusing on strength, balance and how to safely get up from the floor. Participants have also been learning Tai Chi, a traditional Chinese โ€œmeditation in motionโ€ practice using slow, gentle movements and breathing to support overall wellbeing.

The classes run in blocks throughout the year.
