ADVANCE WARNING - REMEMBRANCE DAY ROAD CLOSURE

A rolling road closure will be in place on Sunday 8 November while the Remembrance Day Parade takes place between 12:00pm and 12:30pm.

During the parade, traffic will be temporarily prevented from entering the A44 between Over Norton Road and West Street. Delays are expected to be minimal, with a maximum waiting time of around 10 minutes.

On Friday 23 October, we were delighted to welcome nominees and their guests to our annual Community Awards evening.

The event is always a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the local people, groups and organisations who go above and beyond to support our town and strengthen our community.

🏆 The deserving winners of this year's awards were:

Young Person of the Year: Amira Beckham, in recognition of outstanding fundraising, community spirit and dedication to supporting mental health and wellbeing

Organisation/Group of the Year: OurCoop, in recognition of outstanding support for the residents and community of Chipping Norton

The Beacham Award for Sporting Achievement: Chipping Norton Indoor Bowls Club, in recognition of exceptional sporting achievement and service to the community through sport

Mayor's Civic Award: Claire Toplisek, in recognition of outstanding service and dedication to the Chipping Norton community

Congratulations to all of our nominees, whose commitment, enthusiasm and hard work help make Chipping Norton such a special place to live. We would also like to thank everyone who took the time to submit nominations. Without your support, these awards would not be possible.

🏆 We're delighted to congratulate The Theatre Chipping Norton on winning the 2026 Excellence in Inclusivity Award at the UK Theatre Awards.

The Town Council provides the Theatre with long-term grant funding through a multi-year agreement, helping to support its valuable work and enabling future planning with confidence. It's wonderful to see this work receiving national recognition.

Congratulations to the whole Theatre team on this fantastic achievement.

We’re thrilled to share that last week we won the Excellence in Inclusivity award at the UK Theatre Awards! 🏆

This award recognises the hard work of our whole team, led by our Take Part Director Vanessa Managhan and Mental Health & Community Project Manager Clare O’Hara, who collected the award in London’s West End.

Through our community work, we partner with local organisations to support mental health and wellbeing, bring people together through creativity, and help tackle some of the challenges and inequalities faced by our rural community.

Winning this award will further fuel our efforts to deepen our impact and reach even more people. Our doors are open to all, and we’re only just getting started!

We want to give a huge heartfelt thank you to our brilliant team, our community, our partners and the local businesses whose generosity continue to help make it all possible.

With special thanks to Tony and Judith Yarrow who make our bursary scheme possible and to Wise Investment who have supported our free school meal programme since October 2020 helping us deliver over 17,000 holiday lunches.

This morning we joined members of the Chipping Norton Amnesty Group to raise the United Nations flag in honour of United Nations Day, marking the founding of the United Nations in 1945.

Amnesty International campaigns to protect human rights and work towards a world where everyone can enjoy justice, freedom, truth and dignity. Human rights remain at the heart of the United Nations' work across peace and security, development, humanitarian assistance, and social and economic affairs.

As UN Secretary-General António Guterres said:
"On United Nations Day, we celebrate not only an organisation, but an idea: humanity's future depends on our ability to work together to advance peace, development and human rights."

Unfortunately, we will be cancelling tomorrow's litter pick due to concerns from the Council regarding the predicted weather conditions.

We are sorry for the inconvenience, and we hope to see you at future Keep Chippy Beautiful events.

We are looking for 3-5 volunteers to help manage the rolling road closure for the Remembrance Day parade!

Volunteers would help manage the traffic while the parade moves through town - because of this we are asking that volunteers are 18+ please.

Volunteers would need to be available on Sunday 8th November from 10am-noon. Training and a full safety briefing will be provided, along with refreshments in the Town Hall after the parade.

We're now accepting applications for stalls at this year's Chipping Norton Christmas Lights Switch-On on Friday 20th November.

Whether you're a local retailer, craft maker, charity, food vendor or community organisation, we'd love to hear from you!

🏛️ What's happening with the Town Hall Project?

Chipping Norton Town Council is developing early plans to repair, improve and maintain the Grade II* listed Town Hall, so it can remain a welcoming space for the whole community.

At our Heritage Open Day, we received 103 survey responses, and over 250 people came to the Town Hall to view the early plans and share their feedback.

Thank you to everyone who took part - your feedback is helping to shape the next stage of the project.

🫧 Yesterday, 13 October, a team of staff, volunteers and Mayor Sandra Coleman were out and about in the town centre, cleaning and tidying street furniture.

We are particularly grateful to our loyal volunteers, Celia and Alan, for their continuous support of the Keep Chippy Beautiful initiative.

Our next event will be our Autumn Litter Pick on Saturday 24 October. We look forward to seeing you there!
