Fruit picking.
Wednesday 2nd September,
Thursday 3rd September.

The season for fruit picking is upon us. Lots of people around Chesterfield have apple or other fruit trees overladen with fruit. Our Abundance project arranges to pick the surplus fruit to share with the community. We have apple pressing days, when we distribute the juice to all who come along. And we also preserve some of the fruit for use over winter.

If you'd like to join us to help with picking the fruit, here are the first two dates for this year:

Chesterfield Repair Cafe
This is a cake mixer brought in to the August Repair Cafe at the Baptist Church on Cross Street. The owners were given it as a wedding present 40 years ago and it had been working well all that time. But recently it suddenly started to smoke while it was mixing. They brought it along to Repair Cafe, where John took it apart and fixed the problem, so they are now looking forward to another 40 years of tasty cakes.

If you want something fixed, the next Repair Cafe is on Saturday 19th September 10am to 1pm at the Baptist Church on Cross Street S40 4ST . Sorry no White goods. Last order 12:15pm.

Crafters Bazaar is nearly with us! Sunday 23rd August on Chesterfield Main market from 10am to 4pm. FREE ENTRY.

This is our fifth annual Crafters Bazaar and as always our aim is to keep craft materials, tools etc circulating rather than languishing unused in people’s lofts and spare rooms. Or even worse going to landfill.

We will have 60 stalls manned by local artists and crafters selling off some of their stash: fabric, paper, card, yarn, threads, paint, beads, tools, patterns and craft magazines and books. Plenty to help with a craft project of your own or even tempt you to start a new craft.

Crafts represented include card making, jewellery making, sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting, quilting, papercraft, felting, rug making, embroidery, spinning, book binding, patchworking, crossstitch, dressmaking, leather work, embroidery, scrap booking, quilling, decoupage, weaving, dyeing and beading

Come and have a chat with local artists and crafters and maybe buy something new to you.

Litter Picking Thursday 13th August 10am to 11:30am
Queen's Park cricket pavilion

Join the Don Catchment Rivers Trust on Thursday 13th August for a litter pick of Queen's Park and the surrounding areas. We will be meeting by the cricket pavilion for a 10am start. Transition Chesterfield AGM
7 August 2026, 7pm
The Hub, 63 Low Pavements, S40 1AR

Our AGM will take place on 17 August, where will hear more about our newest projects. All are welcome to attend. Members will receive the annual report in advance of the meeting.

We'll be appointing further trustees at the AGM. We are keen to hear from anyone who may be interested in joining. It would be especially helpful to have a slightly wider group of trustees, so that tasks can be shared more easily and Transition Chesterfield can continue to develop.

Our next Repair cafe is on Saturday 15th August, 10am-1pm (all items need to be booked in by 12.15pm) at Chesterfield Baptist Church, Cross St S40 4ST

Our main goal at Repair Cafe continues to be to "make stuff last longer". This in turn reduces the amount of waste going to landfill, and also eliminates the carbon (and cost) associated with buying a replacement item. We don't charge for repairs but we do ask for a donation which helps to cover the costs of running the Repair Cafe sessions. As always there will be a variety of refreshments available.

Our fifth annual Crafters Bazaar is fast approaching. On Sunday 23rd August 10am to 6pm. Chesterfield main market place.

Our aim is to get stashed crafting materials, tools and craft books and magazines back into circulation. No need to buy new craft supplies when you can purchase second hand things from other crafters at Crafters Bazaar. More info on our Chesterfield Crafters Bazaar page.

Crafters Bazaar Sunday 23rd August 2026
Chesterfield main market 10am to 6pm.

Wall to wall art and crafting supplies for every type of craft. 60 stalls full of goodies for the dedicated crafter or beginner. All stallholders are local crafters selling off their stash, so come and get a bargain or that piece of material or yarn you need to finish a project. Maybe a discontinued dye colour or the rubber stamp you've been searching for. Or if vintage haberdashery is your thing, there is sure to be plenty of that too.

Join the Clothes-Wise team for free skill-share workshops at the Hub during Chesterfield Crafters Bazaar on August 23rd. Details to reserve your spot are on Eventbrite - search for Transition Chesterfield events. We will be mending clothes using Sashiko embroidery, learning traditional darning skills and using a peg-loom to begin our new "River" upcycled textiles project. Numbers limited to 6 per workshop so please book early to avoid disappointment. Hope to see you there!

Join us for The Big Butterfly Count

Scarsdale Health Centre Community Garden, off Nightingale Close, Newbold Road, S41 7PF.

Drop in to take part in Big Butterfly Count 2026 and find out more about our Small Urban Nature Space (SUNS).

The photos show some of the butterflies and moths we found at our count last month. Those pictured are Painted lady, Skipper and Silver Y.

Please note, this is an outdoor event with outdoor seating only, so bring your own drink, hat and sunscreen if needed. No booking required.
