War Graves Inspected

Yesterday, I met with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission at Staveley Cemetery.

What many people don’t realise is that cemeteries across the country, including in North East Derbyshire, often contain a small area of graves for those who died in the World Wars and in later conflicts.

At Staveley, there are 26 war graves from the First and Second World Wars. These sites are cared for by dedicated teams who work tirelessly to ensure they are properly maintained and never forgotten. First time visit to this local war memorial at Barrow Hill. There are about 5 soldiers remembered on here whose Commonwealth War Graves that I look after in Staveley Cemetery.

A wonderful collection. (KRRC) Service Number 10131. Joesph was from Walthamstow. This is a very rare collection to own.

A very well kept cemetery here in Banff. Lots of the Commonwealth Wealth headstones grouped together. All made out of what looks like local granite. Lots of other private memorials around the cemetery including a solider who died in Gallipoli.

Whilst in the cemetery I spotted this small memorial to Annie Ellen Hetty Swift. A simple wipe clean to remove the grass looks like new.
