Another special day for our former Cadet Flight Sergeant Ella Jones.

Accompanied by her (extremely proud) dad, they attended the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award ceremony at Buckingham Palace, with HRH Prince Edward in attendance together with a number of other celebrity guests.

Ella managed to complete her Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards while at 1507 (Chester-le-Street) Squadron and a very big thank you to all of the staff who helped her along the way.

The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a remarkable achievement which recognises resilience, perseverance, teamwork, leadership, and service to the community.

Completing the award requires months and months of hard work and determination, making this recognition at Buckingham Palace a truly special and well-deserved occasion.

Congratulations Ella from everyone at 1507 Squadron.

Last weekend, Durham Northumberland Wing held its annual Adventure Training Challenge at RAF Spadeadam.

Day one saw teams taking on a challenging walk, while day two tested the cadet's skills across a range of activities including first aid, archery, mountain biking and orienteering.

A huge well done to our team which consisted of FS Bailey, Cpl Hunter, Cdt Cullen, Cdt Gardener and Cdt Tankiewicz.

They finished in a very impressive 4th position only missing out on a medal by 3 points.

Congratulations to you all.

Today our Cadets were out in force with sixteen of them representing the Squadron in supporting the Heel & Toe Children's Charity Superhero Walk which was held in Riverside Park, Chester-le-Street.

This is a lovely local charity who deliver specialist therapy services to children in our area.

Our Cadets, together with a squad of Police Cadets were tasked with marshalling the route and taking post at various check points around the course ensuring everyone stays on track. All the while encouraging the children along the way.

Thankfully the weather was kind to us and a good day was had by all.

A huge thank you to all of our Cadets who took part.

On Friday night we said farewell to Sgt Joseph Todd which just happened to be the day before he turned 18.

Sgt Todd joined us on 22 April 2022 and from that point on he was pretty much an ever present at every event and activity that we had on offer.

He was always one of the first names down on our Community Events for which he has received our Community Champion Award and he was always willing to give everything a go - shooting, climbing, surfing, bodyboarding, athletics, volleyball and flying, culminating in him really pushing himself outside of his comfort zone and completing his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

He leaves us at the start of his A-levels and we wish him well with his exams which will see him progress to University in September.

Good luck for the future Sgt Todd.

IS Volleyball 2026

Today our cadets took part in the Durham Northumberland Wing Volleyball Competition which was held at Maiden Castle in Durham.

Taking part were FS Bailey, Cdt Cullen, Cdt Dorner, Cdt L Gardener, Cdt P Gardener, Cdt Glister, Cdt Greaves, Cdt O’Donnell, Cdt Tankiewicz and Cdt Walters.

In a very tough competition, we finished in a very credible 6th place overall having won 3 out of our 5 games.

Even the games we lost were only by the narrowest of margins so you can all be very proud of yourselves.

IS CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION 2026

Today 12 of our Cadets and 2 members of Staff spent some time at Rising Sun Country Park

Thank you to FS Bailey, Sgt Hewitt, Cpl Dent, Cdt P Gardener, Cdt S Walters, Cdt Barry, Cdt Greaves, Cdt McLaughlin, Cdt Glister Cdt Tankiewicz, Cdt Heron-Riley and Cdt O’Donnell who all took part and did brilliantly.

FS Bailey won the Junior Men’s race with Cpl Dent winning the Mens 15-16 race.

The 15-16 Male Category was the only one which had 4 scoring Cadets and this was reflected in them coming away with 1st place.

Huge thank you to all of you for taking part, not the easiest of competitions but you all gave it a go and that is all we ask.

You may notice on the group photo a couple of missing cadets from the names above. Apparently, they were too busy saying their farewells.
