Match Report from the Down Camogie U16 Shield Championship Round 4 Game >> Carryduff GAC vs Bredagh GAC
It has now reached the business end of this Camogie season and as both teams left their dressing rooms under a cloudless sky onto Pitch 2 on Saturday afternoon, it is always down to the best team on the day.
This Carryduff group of camog's have been in-form but the visitors Bredagh are always a tough team to beat.
Gerard McGrattan the Referee rolled in the sliotar sharply and going by the early scrambles and scrappy play, it was never going to be a game for the purists.
Carryduff were playing into the Pitch Beag end, which always seems harder to find the target, so it took a while to find their range for the breakthrough scores to get into the lead.
After this deadlock was broken, the home team mostly dominated the first half, but there was a lack of fluency and no reprieve from the physicality, tenacity and skill from the team in the maroon jerseys.
The second half started more brightly, Carryduff had a lead, but it was far from insurmountable and like all typical Bredagh teams, they show plenty of pride and good morale, which made it uncomfortable and not always pretty.
It was all purposeful camogie now and Bredagh got onto the scoresheet to give them belief.
It starting getting lively on and off the pitch as the Referee waved away any marginal calls.
Both defences were on top which neutralised the scoring territory and the forwards found it hard to get any joy.
The Bredagh goalkeeper always seemed to be in the right place at the right time to restrict any chances for the home team which was frustrating, but she couldn't prevent some goals which stretched her net and made the difference at the end.
As the game petered out, the Referee blew his whistle and Carryduff got a fully deserved win, which all their hard work deserved.
This was a huge collective effort for Carryduff and all the Camog's played their part which keeps the momentum going.
The coaches set the team up well and brought on fresh legs when needed. They are playing good camogie and by sticking together and driving on, they can be ready for their next match where they have to go to Darragh Cross and go in search of victory.
A big performance will be needed so there is a bit of preparation to be done.
