This Learning Disability Week, we're reflecting on the importance of inclusion, opportunity and belonging.

At Newlife, we believe disability should never be a barrier to opportunity. Everyone should have the chance to participate, contribute and belong. By removing barriers and creating inclusive environments, we can help ensure more people have access to meaningful opportunities in work, volunteering and community life.

Across our stores, warehouses and Opportunity Centre, we see every day the difference that inclusive opportunities can make - not just for individuals, but for teams, communities and organisations too.

Because inclusion benefits everyone.

Today is , and we're celebrating every disabled child and every way to play.

Every child plays, explores and experiences the world in their own way. Play is about joy, connection, curiosity and feeling included. It is not about rules, results or expectations.

At Newlife, we believe every disabled child deserves the freedom to play in a way that works for them. Through our Community Play and Play Loans services, we help remove barriers to play by creating sensory-rich, inclusive opportunities for children and families.

Whether that's at home with specialist sensory toys or in local community settings that have received training and support, every child deserves to feel welcomed, valued and able to join in.

Play can help children build confidence, communicate, connect with others and simply enjoy being children. But most importantly, play is valuable because of how it makes children feel.

Because play is not optional. It is essential.

We're proud to be featured in Monarchy and Democracy: A History of Leadership, a new publication produced by the History of Parliament and St James's House.

This feature is really about the children and families we support every day.

We know that many families face barriers that can make everyday life more challenging for disabled children. Accessing the right equipment, support and services shouldn't be a struggle, yet too often it is.

That's why Newlife exists. We work alongside families to help disabled children get the equipment and support they need to play, learn, explore and enjoy childhood.

Thank you to every family who shares their experiences with us and helps us drive change. Your voices are at the heart of everything we do.

As Volunteers' Week comes to a close, we want to celebrate the time, energy, kindness and dedication you give so generously throughout the year. Whether you volunteer in our warehouse, stores, Opportunity Centre, or have given just a small amount of your time to Newlife, your contribution is valued and appreciated.

Every role helps keep Newlife running, from supporting our shops and services to creating welcoming spaces for colleagues, volunteers, customers and families.

From all of us at Newlife, thank you for everything you do. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of our community πŸ’™πŸ’«

Celebrating Our Retail Volunteers 🌟

Our retail volunteers play an important role across our shop floors, helping to create a welcoming experience for everyone who visits our stores.

Like Lami, many of our volunteers find real value in being part of the team. Lami shares that one of her favourite things about the role is the opportunity to develop new skills and meet a wide variety of people every day.

This is why volunteering matters: it's not only about contributing in-store, but also about building confidence, learning new skills and connecting with others.

A huge thank you to Lami and all our retail volunteers. Your hard work, enthusiasm and commitment help make our shops the welcoming places they are today πŸ›οΈπŸŒŸ

This National Volunteers' Week, we'd like to say a huge thank you to all the fantastic corporate volunteer groups who have spent time with us at Newlife πŸ’™

Over the years, we've been lucky enough to welcome teams from organisations including Veolia, Lloyds and our close friends at Liberty Jamboree, who have all come along to experience volunteering with us and learn more about Newlife's work.

We love welcoming corporate volunteers through our doors and showing them how their time helps support our shops, services and activities, helping us create opportunities for children with disabilities and their families across the UK. Alongside making a contribution, there's always plenty of laughter, teamwork and fun along the way!

Thank you to every business and team that has volunteered with Newlife. Your support is greatly appreciated.

Celebrating our amazing warehouse volunteers πŸ’™

Our warehouse volunteers play a vital role in helping us process donations and prepare items for our shops. Their hard work, dedication and support behind the scenes help keep everything running smoothly every day.

James has been volunteering in our warehouse for two years and says one of the things he enjoys most is the sense of community and the people he works alongside. For James, volunteering is about being part of a supportive team and contributing to something meaningful.

A huge thank you to all our volunteers who generously give their time. Whether sorting, organising, pricing or preparing stock, every task helps our shops succeed and supports the work Newlife does with children with disabilities and their families.

Thank you to James and all our warehouse volunteers. Your commitment, skills and enthusiasm are greatly appreciated.

This Volunteers' Week, we're celebrating all our volunteers across Newlife.

Our Opportunity Centre is a welcoming space where people come together, build friendships and be part of their community. The volunteers who give their time help create an environment where everyone feels welcome and included.

John says he enjoys working alongside the team and feels happy being part of the Opportunity Centre. Lawrence highlights the strong community spirit, sharing how much he enjoys the singing, laughter and friendly atmosphere.

Their experiences reflect what many volunteers tell us – the Opportunity Centre is not only a place to volunteer, but also a place to connect with others, contribute their skills and be part of a community.

Thank you to John, Lawrence and every volunteer who helps make the Opportunity Centre such a welcoming and inclusive place. Your time and commitment help create opportunities for people to connect, participate and thrive πŸ’™βœ¨

We’re making it quicker and easier for families to access our support πŸ’™

We’re excited to share that this summer we will launching a new application system to improve your experience and help us support even more disabled children. We’re also refreshing our Play Pod service, with brand-new toy boxes on the way!

As we prepare for launch, applications for grants and Play Pods are temporarily paused. In the meantime, our free Nurse Helpline is still here to offer support, signposting and information.

You can visit our website and sign up to be the first to hear when applications reopen.

Thank you for being part of our community as we continue working towards a better future for disabled children and their families.
