A fascinating and truly educational event is coming our way.
The Rotary club of Burton Trent have arranged for Dr Gareth Williams, a former curator at the British Museum to enlighten us on the incredible story of this important, historic find.
All are welcome to join us at this ‘not be missed’ event.
Tickets are available from Ticketsource as shown on the poster, we’d love to see you there.

Anslow WI formed on 17 July 1946.
We welcomed members, and guests WIA Verity Conner to present our 80th Certificate and cut the cake and Joanne Whitten, Hanbury & Draycott WI our delegate for the NFWI Annual Meeting on 4 June 2026 to give her report. 61 ladies enjoyed their fish and chip supper. Verity gave information about a SFWI ‘Love Yourself Wellness Day’ free event at Stafford on 26 September. A summer fundraiser was promoted to help raise money for Ottilie who has a rare form of childhood cancer-neuroblastoma at just 2 years old. Ottilie's family need to raise as much money as possible for potential life saving treatment in America. The event will take place on Saturday 8 August at Little Monsters Day Nursery, Anslow on Saturday 8 August from 11 am until 3 pm. Raffle tickets were being sold at our meeting and donations of raffle prizes and cakes are most welcome. The results of the competition ‘A Seaside Postcard’ were announced. The raffle was drawn. Our next meeting will take place on 8 September 2026 when the speaker will be Chris Austin entertaining us with ‘Out of the Shadows’. The competition is a homemade instrument.

We had 5 nominations for Anslow WI's Charity of the Year 2026/2027. Following the voting at our June meeting, the one chosen was CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). Member Ruth, who will be President of Burton-on-Trent Rotary Club from July 2026, chose CRY because she wants to do something for youth in the Burton area. She is planning a Saturday or Sunday screening session for 100 people between the ages of 14 and 35 and will go into schools, local football, hockey, cricket, rugby clubs and Burton Albion to invite young people to attend. We are extremely happy to be raising funds at Anslow WI to help with this funding and also very proud of Ruth.

The Anslow WI June meeting was a night of presentations.
A cheque for £1,303.48 was presented to Ann Peace and Patricia Ackroyd for the Burton And District Branch Of Cancer Research UK; our Charity of the Year for 2025/2026.
Gifts and thanks were given to Barbara Goodwin who stood down as President at our May Annual meeting after nine years service.
Penny Walton who resigned from the committee after a year’s extra service was thanked with a gift.
Our speaker was Kerry Watson from Footprints Family Charity who gave us a wonderful talk. Two of our members visited Kenya last year so we have a special interest in the amazing work they do. It was wonderful to see how one person's purposeful journey and determination had changed so many orphans' lives. A blackout competition was run by Kerry in aid of her charity with a prize of a handmade basket filled with handmade gifts from the staff in her charity building in Africa. The lucky winner was Liz.
Member Catherine asked for cake donations for a cake sale taking place in August for a local baby treatment fundraising.
The competition was aptly 'Africa' and the winners were 1st Helen, 2nd Jill and 3rd Marilyn.
51 ladies have paid up for our 80th Birthday Outing to take place at the Courtyard in July.
A poster was out for 'Wuthering Heights' and boards were out for a planned trip to Heath Farm and the refreshment & vote of thanks rotas.
Orders were being taken for the July Fish & Chip Supper; our 80th Birthday celebration when WIA Verity Conner will help us celebrate and cut the cake.
The Breakfast Club will take place on 26 June and the Deer Park walk & refreshments on 29 June. In July we will need to pay Deb for the January 2027 panto.
