Our glorious High Street.......but did you know that in the 15th/16th century when most of the High Street was built it looked like a colourful seaside town. Rubble built buildings, which are the majority in Burford. were painted with a lime wash until the stone hardened. This "wash" was red, yellow or white. If you look very carefully you can still see remains, particularly red. For me every day is a school day

This is a scratch or mass dial, used to tell Church goers the times of services. A rod in the central hole acts as a sun dial. Burford Church has one to the right of the main door close to the small priest's door. What happens when the sun doesn't shine?
