Images reposted from 🙏

Here at Bristol Yoga Roots we have been reflecting on and processing events in the wider world and closer to home in recent weeks. It feels fitting to be posting as Navrati celebrations begin and we call in the loving and powerful boundaries of Durga 🧡

The riots and violent protests in our streets and the continuing polarised opinions being shared online have felt distressing and completely out of alignment with our own views and values - we have been asking ourselves, how best do we respond to it all?

To begin, we feel we must be clear that we are here in solidarity with folks who are refugees and migrants, those in the BIPOC, q***r and trans communities, and we stand firm in our mission to hold space for all those who are part of any marginalised community, practicing from a position of anti racism, anti colonialism and anti patriarchy.

Many of our team and students are directly affected by what has been unfolding and we feel the ripples of this right to our core.

And, we also recognise that the views that so disturb us are born from a place of division. How do we engage with something that feels so hateful to us, and not push the ‘other’ ever further away?

When we talked together and came back to the roots of our practice, we remembered that holding space for our own nervous systems is essential for staying in - staying in the conversation, keeping ourselves informed, being ready to stand for those who are directly affected by any form of extremism. Because at times it takes a lot to stay out of apathy and overwhelm.

And any form of extremism is threatened by diversity and inclusion. Community is our strength, modelling another way is our power.

We invite you to stay rooted in your practice. For allies, may this support you to find hope, to have conversations with the folks you know who share views different from your own, and take time out when needed. For those who are directly affected by the current socio-political climate, may your practice give you rest, sanctuary and holding.

May the yoga kula lean into the path of yoga to stand together in the name of justice.

We’re with you, in Love & Rage
