SEND Reform 2026 promises earlier support, fewer EHCP battles and £4bn investment. However, without real school capacity, a specialist workforce plan and enforceable rights, reform risks becoming a reshuffle rather than a reset. Implementation will decide everything.

💛 A huge thank you to our amazing supporters! 💛

Did you know you can raise money for Extraordinary Links without spending a penny extra? Yep—zero. Nada. Zilch.

If you shop online (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), simply sign up to easyfundraising. Thousands of retailers will donate to us every time you shop—at no extra cost to you. It’s basically kindness on autopilot.

✨ Even better? Every penny raised goes straight back into supporting families through our groups and events. We have no wage costs at all—we’re 100% volunteer-led—so your support goes exactly where it’s needed most.

Shop as usual. Do good effortlessly. Feel quietly heroic. 💪💛

The Department for Education has released further dates in its series of ‘SEND engagement’ events - launching a new “SEND reform national conversation” just weeks before the White Paper on SEND reform is expected early next year.

Most of the in-person sessions are already fully booked, and the newly added online events each focus on one of the Government’s recently announced “five principles” for reform. An online form is also available for submitting views.

While it is important that the Government is open to hearing the views of parents and carers, with the White Paper now imminent it is difficult to see how engagement at this stage could meaningfully influence proposals that are likely already well developed.

In our recent letter to the Education Secretary, we also highlighted that while the Government’s “five principles” are important, they are already reflected in existing SEND law and statutory guidance. What is missing are the principles of legal entitlement and enforceable accountability, which are both essential to making the system work for children, young people and their families.

🔗Register for the engagement events, or submit your views online, via the links we've posted in the comments.

Our Mission

As a parent of an Autistic child, I understand the challenges (and joy!) which having a child with any kind of disability brings. This contradiction can make things confusing, especially when you want to share your child’s accomplishments, the challenges you are facing, or even need pointing in the right direction for help.

At Extraordinary Links, I want to change that story. We are an inclusive space for children with disability and SEN, and for their family. We are also free, as we wish this group to be accessible for all, not just a few.

We have created a safe space for you and your child to visit twice a month (to start with) to enjoy Arts and Crafts, books, experiments and even a sensory den.

For parents and carers we have resources you can borrow (bit like a library) and we can point you in the right direction for up to date advice, support and practical things like funding. We know how much extra raising a child with additional needs cost. (Scope estimate up to £1000 a month!)
