A big thank you to our hard working volunteers who spent the morning unpacking donations, stocking up shelves and packing food parcels, then stood outside in the sun for two hours distributing food parcels this afternoon. It wasn't easy work in this heat but as usual, we provided service with a smile and helped a wide variety of people who came to us. Everyone who came to us was offered a chilled bottle of water 💦 straight from the fridge and we had sun tan lotion available too 🌞. We were also able to talk to a new mum who is doing brilliantly under challenging circumstances, and signposted her to the toddler group at Brighouse Central Methodist Church. It will take more than a heatwave to stop us helping our community!

Brighouse Central Foodbank are really looking forward to having a stall again at this year's Brighouse Gala! Come and see us at Lane Head Rec, where we'll be having our popular Cupbola - like a tombola, but with cups 😆Only £1 a go and there's a prize every time - not just the cup, but the cup with a gift inside it !!!!
As with lots of community events, a small number of people put in a lot of hard work to ensure that events like these go ahead. Please show your support by watching the procession, putting a few coins into the collection buckets, and visiting the stalls at Lane Head Rec. Walter the Wheelie Bin is ready and waiting for your carrier bags, which we can use for our food parcels.
He'll be here outside the Foodbank every day, which will hopefully make it easier for you to recycle your unwanted bags with us.

Last Friday, we once again welcomed to the Foodbank Lisa and Maisie from the Yorkshire Building Society Brighouse branch. They and their colleagues have been volunteering with us for a few weeks now, and when a corporate volunteer says 'shall we just get stuck in?', you know that they have become part of the team

Last Friday was incredibly busy for us. We opened the doors at 1pm and the queue of people needing help stretched from our door to the pavement for an hour, non-stop. Once the queue had settled down, we still had a steady stream of people coming to us until we closed at 3pm. We supported a total of 44 people, meaning that we helped one person every three minutes. And we saw every cross section of our community - single people and families - and a full range of challenges affecting everyone. Well done to our volunteers who literally didn't stop all day; packing extra parcels, running to get pet food, cleaning products and toiletries, and getting more and more bread out of the freezer. Days like these can be tiring both physically and mentally, but the team rose to the challenge. Thank you also to Focus4Hope who shared with us their KFC frozen chicken plus lots of bread, crisps and vegetables, and to Sainsbury's at both Brighouse and Rastrick, who sent us lots of bread too. These items made a lovely addition to our food parcels and went down a treat with our clients
