Coming to Ilfracombe: the film that everyone's talking about.

The National Emergency Briefing was a landmark event held in Westminster, where the UK's leading climate and nature scientists briefed over 1,200 politicians, business leaders, and public figures on the state of our climate and natural world, and what it means for our food, health, economy, and national security.

This compelling 50-minute documentary brings that evidence to everyone. It's designed to be watched together: neighbours, local leaders, and MPs in the same room, looking at the same evidence, and thinking about what comes next. After the film, short structured discussions explore what this means locally, for community preparedness, resilience, and long-term planning.

This isn't a film designed to frighten or overwhelm. It's a call to be informed. And to act together.

The People’s Emergency Briefing is coming to Ilfracombe…

Hundreds of north Devon residents have now watched the People's Emergency Briefing film, but the conversation really doesn't stop there.

Across community screenings in Braunton, Bideford, Torrington, Barnstaple, Chelfham and South Molton, local people came together to watch the same evidence and ask: what does this mean for us, here, in north Devon?

The post-film discussions that followed were rich, honest and full of ideas. From local action groups and area-specific resources, to concerns about fossil fuel investment and the planning decisions that shape our future.

We've now pulled everything together in one place. On our post-screening page you'll find:

✅ The actions that came out of each screening's conversation
✅ Local organisations you can get involved with right now
✅ Sample letters to your MP
✅ Recommended reading on the Devon Carbon Plan, North Devon Futures Strategy, and more
✅ Five personal actions recommended by health expert Professor Hugh Montgomery

👉 You can read the full post-screening findings here: https://bit.ly/NEB-NDevon

The film is rolling out across the UK – more than 1,000 screenings so far, with the goal of reaching every constituency. If you'd like to bring it to your workplace, community group, or a venue, hosting is straightforward and free.

This isn't a film designed to frighten. It's a call to be informed – and to act together as a community.

Every broken thing has a story worth saving.

In May, Earth Action North Devon volunteers helped fix 29 items at four Repair Cafes as part of the Recycle Devon BIG FIX month, including two bicycles, an umbrella, and one much-loved toy bunny. All our data was sent to the BIG FIX for their 2026 report.

Before you replace something that's broken, ask yourself: does it actually need to be binned? In a world of next-day delivery and cheap replacements, it's easy to forget that most things can be fixed and that fixing them matters. ♻️

Every repaired item keeps waste out of landfill, saves the carbon cost of manufacturing something new, and often means the world to the person who brought it in.

None of this happens without our remarkable volunteers, who show up with their skills, their patience, and frankly a worrying amount of enthusiasm for a challenge. Fuelled, as ever, by tea, coffee, and cake. And more tea.
