We are proud to hear that Adrian Isaac has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Kings Birthday Honours list for “services to the environment”.

Since 2001 Adrian has been the driving force to “Make the dream a Reality” to eventually create an arc of accessible woods and parkland around the east of Boston. In the last 25years the project has grown from the original Westgate Wood to the expanding SirJoseph Bank Country Park, plus the Fenside Woods and Dion’s Wood Nature Reserve.
He has developed a strong team of volunteers who are learning from all his experience so the work that he has initiated will carry on.

Congratulations Adrian a very worthy recipient and an inspiration to us all.

Exciting News from Boston Woods!

The Boston Woods Trust is expanding!
Earlier this year, thanks to generous legacies, we were able to purchase
another 23 acres (9.3 Ha) of land near Westgate Wood. The site will be called
“Joan’s Wood” and will be an extension to Sir Joseph Banks Country Park.
This is exciting for us; it is always great to be planting trees.
As with all our sites it will be a community woodland with full public access.
We are currently in the planning stage discussing layout (routes of paths and
site of car park etc) and species mix.

All of our woods have a “Stump view”. This site is no exception…………..

A big part of the excitement is developing a planting plan.

The tree species we select are likely to be slightly different to our previous plantings as we need to take account of climate change and select species that are better able to survive in years to come. We are hoping to create a “Forest for the future”. This will be decided in discussion with The Forestry Commission and will take advantage of the latest scientific research.

We have an amazing opportunity here, but a lot of work to do, including the need to raise funds. If you or your company could consider sponsorship of this project please contact us at [email protected] about possible options.

You could also help by volunteering, volunteers meet three mornings a week. There are many different activities through the season, why not come and join us – a chance to do something physical in the open air in a relaxing environment. Different levels of physical ability can be accommodated. If you are interested please contact Steve on 07759087479.
