🎉 Huge congratulations to Penny Rosemond and Cameron Quinn on their incredible contribution to the Northern Youth Research Partnership!

Their work has helped shape research focused on strengthening youth-led approaches in health and social care, ensuring that young people’s voices are at the heart of decisions that affect their lives.

This important research highlights the value of meaningful youth involvement and how the youth perspective has the potential to help reduce health inequalities for young people across the region.

We’re incredibly proud to see young people leading change and making a real impact through research.

💡Spotlight On: Fenham💡

This week, our Fenham group enjoyed an exciting trip to Activate and what made it even more special was that the young people planned it themselves!

Working within a budget and using a planning sheet, five young people came up with different trip ideas before the whole group voted on their favourite. The winning choice was a visit to Activate, and for many in the group it was their very first time there.

Everyone had a fantastic day, building confidence, decision-making skills and teamwork while enjoying a well-earned trip together.

A huge thank you to David Dockrey for supporting opportunities like this and helping make experiences like these possible for our young people.

This Monday (8th June) at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, a new documentary will air: Gareth Southgate: Changing the Game for Young Men.

The film sees former England manager Gareth Southgate explore the challenges facing young men and boys today – from education and employment to mental health, identity and isolation – and the support needed to help them thrive.

Earlier this year, NE Youth CEO, Jon was invited to take part in a roundtable discussion featured within the documentary, alongside organisations and practitioners from across the UK working to better understand and support boys and young men. We are grateful to the Centre for Social Justice for bringing together voices from across the sector to contribute to these important conversations.

While our involvement in the documentary itself was limited to that discussion, the themes explored throughout the film reflect conversations we have been having for many years.

From our beginnings as the Northumberland Association of Boys’ Clubs in 1935, to our current programmes and events such as the Kick About Cup, supporting boys and young men has long been part of NE Youth’s story. Through sport, youth work, positive relationships and safe spaces, we continue to create opportunities for young people to build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging.

This documentary shines a national spotlight on issues affecting many boys and young men today, and we’re pleased to see these important conversations reaching a wider audience.

On Friday, our amazing group from Wallsend attended the Resilient Futures Awards at Howden Hub, and we’re delighted to share that they took home the Outstanding Group Award! 🎉

This award recognises the incredible journey our young people have been on over the past 12 months and the fantastic projects they have led and contributed to. From creating Christmas hampers for the club to running campaigns focused on inclusion and wellbeing, they have made a real difference in their community, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything they have achieved.

We also want to give a huge congratulations to Ash, who received the Positive Choices Award. 🌟 This award celebrates the positive steps Ash has taken to create better outcomes for both themselves and their peers. As a dedicated and consistent member of the group over the last year, Ash has shown remarkable growth, and we are incredibly proud of how far they have come.

It was a hugely successful event for our group and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the hard work, dedication and achievements of our young people. We hope this recognition reminds them just how incredible they are💙❤️
