- This Great Big Green Week, we're celebrating volunteers and community organisations working with us to nurture nature, tackle climate change and improve wellbeing, in line with the Torfaen Deal.

A disused space at the former Victoria Village School site in Abersychan is set to be transformed into a new therapeutic garden, supporting children, families and the wider community.

MyST, a regional mental health programme and part of Torfaen Council’s therapeutic offer to children and young people involved with social care, will work with community based organisations Garnsychan Partnership and Coedwedd Community Hub to create the nurturing outdoor environment.

We’ve had a few questions about where Garnsychan Partnership has moved to, so here’s a quick update.

The simple answer is that we’ve relocated to our larger venue in Blaenavon. With rising costs and ongoing financial pressures, it was no longer viable for us to operate from two separate locations. To continue delivering vital, impactful work for our community, we made the decision to bring everything together under one roof—giving us the space to grow and expand what we offer.

Our wellbeing hub now brings together essential services including our baby bank, food bank, fuel support and more. We also offer a wide range of household furniture, including white goods and garden equipment, alongside our training and volunteering academy, removals and delivery services.

Since the move, we’ve been able to grow even further. New provisions include a fully functioning bike mechanics and recycling workshop, where young people can gain skills while helping the community access affordable bikes. We’ve also introduced a community bike library, a fully equipped training kitchen available to hire, and free-to-use batch cooking stations.

In addition, we now provide a dedicated NEETs programme supporting young people into training and work experience, and we’re currently developing a community garden with raised beds and a polytunnel—along with much more to come.

We understand that our new location is at the northern end of the borough, and we’ve made several attempts to secure a more central space, but unfortunately without success. However, our hub is accessible via public transport, with the number 30 bus stopping right outside our building. We can also provide delivery services on request.

Finally, we’re actively working with community venues in the Abersychan ward to introduce satellite pop-up projects in the near future.

If you have any queries or need support please contact us on 01495 774453 / 793187 and we will be happy to help.
