Trees looking healthy and happy in the Crai valley on our site monitoring visit last week. Thank you to all of you who braved the elements two years ago at Gelli Wlyb and planted hedgerows. Also wonderful shelterbelt doing well at Onnenfawr. The site was full of birds, insect life and wild flowers and will protect the owners new cider orchard from the north wind. πŸ’š 🌳

Lovely to welcome to Bryn Arw and our Tree Nursery on Friday.

A fantastic team with feet in our landscape and an understanding of Wales farming heart that gets what we do.

They had a brisk walk up Bryn Arw to see the trees (before it got to hot!) then back down to the nursery for lunch and personalised tours by Rachel and Jen, sharing tree facts, stories and research.

They even had time to help us out with some mulching (bracken and sheep's wool laid down between the tree rows to help retain moisture)

Out at dawn with the dream team of volunteers for a bird survey on Bryn Arw, the hill where our co-founder, Keith Powell planted 135,000 native broadleaf trees five years ago. We carry out the surveys to understand the changes to birds and flora on the hill, as the trees reach establishment. Redstarts and reed buntings, stonechats and skylarks, yellowhammers and wood warblers galore. Cracking start to the day.

Abergavenny Town Council’s Environment Committee were delighted to be the first to receive a presentation on the new Sugar Loaf Regeneration Farm Partnership CIC.

Robert Penn, Co-Founder of STUMP UP for TREES - To plant a million trees in the Brecon Beacons, and Dave Pearson-Smith, who is the Project Manager for the SLRFP, shared their vision for a 30 year plan to replace and restore lost habitats and regenerative farming methods across the Sugar Loaf Mountain.

This work will be vital to protect the landscape as we adapt to climate change, holding water in the soil and supporting biodiversity.
