05/10/26 wonderful news that lovely Rodney will hopefully be meeting a new brother and family in a few weeks. 💜🐾🐾
This gorgeous youngster is still looking for a new home, he’s a very sweet boy and shows lots of potential 🐾🐾🥰
Rodney is a very handsome 3-year-old whose owners have made the sad decision to rehome him because they do not feel they are able to offer him everything he needs through their current home and setup.
They describe Rodney as an extremely loveable dog with a great character, and would best describe him as the BFG with people and other dogs.
Rodney is very clever and resourceful and can open doors, so his owners have had to use child locks to stop him accessing rooms, shredding things or getting into food cupboards. They also installed child gates but he can jump over those. He is still not always 100% toilet trained if he’s busy playing he forgets himself on times.
Rodney needs to be on a long line in his current garden as he will find a way to escape or jump a fence/gate. When out on walks, he would generally be on an extendable lead particularly in new or unfamiliar areas, or if in a secure/familiar area he would generally be fine, however his recall requires constant reinforcement.
His owners have also found that Rodney can be very enthusiastic when greeting people and will often try to jump up. He will also beg for them for food.
Rodney currently lives indoors with 4 other dogs, ranging from a few months to 10 years old, and is great with them all. Outside the home, he is either uninterested in other dogs or very keen to say hello, but due to his size and enthusiasm can sometimes be too much for them. He is never been aggressive towards other dogs.
Rodney happily lives with 2 cats, so a home with cats would be considered.
Around livestock, Rodney is believed to have a tendency to chase and would therefore need to remain on a lead or long line. His owner has horses and he is confident around them, but is always kept on a long line.
Rodney has never lived with children or had much contact with them. He is extremely kind and, again, a real BFG when it comes to people and dogs, but does not always realise his size. Any interaction with children would therefore need to be carefully managed, with confident/strong children.
Rodney stayed in kennels during his 3 months residential training but struggled with this, and he has also struggled with being crated since. He was taught to respond to a whistle during training but has not been particularly responsive to this with his owners.
When travelling, Rodney is a chewer and has previously chewed beds and liners in the back of the car. He may whine initially, particularly if he knows he is going for a walk, but will settle, although the chewing can continue throughout the journey.
Rodney is neutered and vaccinated until January 2027, his flea and worm treatments are up to date.
His owners have also reported an ongoing issue with his rear end, where he frequently licks it or experiences leakage.
Rodney’s owners feel that a different environment where someone is able to give him the time, patience and continued training he needs would give him the best opportunity to thrive.
