We’re looking for a Bass Trombone player to join our friendly and ambitious team, following our success as 2026 Welsh 2nd Section Champions.

🐎🎺 What a night!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Horse Racing Night at Blackwood Cricket Club.

There were winners, losers, a few surprise results, plenty of laughs, and most importantly a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.

The evening was an outstanding success and has given a real boost to our preparations for the National Finals in York later this year.

Not bad for a night spent enjoying good company, backing the odd horse, and having a bit of fun together.

Thank you to everyone who supported the event, donated raffle prizes, bought a ticket, sponsored a race, or simply came along and joined in.

🐎 An Evening at the Races – Everyone Welcome! 🎺

We’re hosting a Horse Racing Night on Friday 5th June at Blackwood Cricket Club - and we’d love for you to join us!

Expect a fun, relaxed evening with:
🐎 Virtual horse races
🎟️ A raffle
🍻 A chance to enjoy a great night out with friends and family
🏆 Plenty of friendly competition!

The evening is part of our fundraising as we prepare to represent Wales at the National Brass Band Championships Finals in York later this year.

🎺 Welcome to Markham, Hollie Horsell✨

We’re delighted to welcome Hollie Horsell to the band as our new Principal Cornet.

Hollie brings a wealth of experience, including a long spell as Principal Cornet at Mid Rhondda, alongside more recent Championship Section banding with Llwydcoed and City of Cardiff/M1, where Hollie most recently played on bumper up.

Musical Director Gary Davies said:

“I’m really excited to have another quality player join the Markham ranks. Over the past 12 months we have had some brilliant additions and Hollie is another.

Having played at the highest level over the last few years, I’m really looking forward to working with Hollie as she takes the Principal Cornet seat ahead of an exciting back end of the year.

I’d also like to thank Martyn who has really excelled over the past year, and now takes the bumper up seat.”

We’re excited to have Hollie on board as we look ahead to a busy second half of the year - welcome to Markham!

Still on a high after yesterday’s win - and a great evening celebrating together afterwards. 🎺🏆

For us, banding is about much more than what happens in the rehearsal room. Spending time together away from the Bandroom is just as important, and it’s a big part of what makes weekends like yesterday so special.

We’d booked a room at the Taffs Well Inn regardless of the result so we could enjoy the social side of banding together… the win just made it even better 😄
