Service Spotlight!

In September, our scams team engaged with 621 individuals through scam awareness sessions and presentations, raising awareness of common scams and providing practical advice on how to recognise and avoid them.

Scams are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and people across Gwent need support to recognise the warning signs and stay safe.
Our Scam Awareness Team is always on hand to provide advice, support and reassurance. Whether you’ve received a suspicious message, phone call or email, or you’re simply unsure if something is genuine, we’re here to help.

We run a variety of social and lunch clubs in selected locations around Monmouthshire as a way of combatting loneliness and isolation. Last Friday, Tara, our Scams Awareness Project Coordinator at Age Cymru Gwent, attended a Scams Prevention and Support Awareness event at Monmouth Banking Hub.

The event was a fantastic opportunity to engage with local people, raise awareness of scams and share advice on how to spot the warning signs, protect themselves from fraud and access support if they have been affected.

Tara was also joined by Donna Cushing - Senedd Member, and Catherine Fookes - MP, as they engaged with the community and helped shine a light on the importance of scam prevention and awareness.

At Age Cymru Gwent, we are committed to helping older people stay safe, feel confident and know where to turn for support. Through our Scams Awareness Project, we aim to empower people with the knowledge and information they need to recognise scams and protect themselves.

A big thank you to everyone involved in organising the event and to all those who took the time to stop by, chat with Tara and learn more about staying safe from scams.

⭐Better Together: Making a Difference When It Matters Most⭐

When someone experiences a scam, having the right support at the right time can make all the difference.

Recently, a lady contacted our Help at Home service after becoming a victim of doorstep crime. Recognising that she needed additional support, our team acted quickly to refer her to our Scams Awareness service.

Our Scams Awareness Advisor, Ffion, promptly followed up to offer support and guidance. The lady was extremely grateful for the prompt response and support she had received and praised the way our teams had worked together to help her.

This is a great example of how working together across our services can make a real difference to someone’s life.

In response to the rise in this type of crime, Age Cymru Gwent is delivering scam awareness sessions for both groups and individuals through our Scams Awareness Project. Our sessions help people learn more about the scams being used today, recognise the warning signs and understand how to protect themselves from becoming a victim. Throughout September, our Social Care team provided 337.75 hours of respite services, giving unpaid carers across Gwent the opportunity to take a well-deserved break.

Caring for a loved one can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be physically and emotionally demanding. Many carers put their own health and wellbeing on hold while supporting someone else, making regular breaks essential.

At Age Cymru Gwent, we understand the vital role carers play, and we're here to help. Our respite service provides carers with the peace of mind to take time for themselves, knowing their loved one is being cared for in a safe and supportive environment.
